Greetings Salk Students and Families,

We have had a wonderful first day here at Salk Middle School! It was filled with excitement, smiles, and joy. Please take a moment to review these reminders as we continue our journey into the 2026-2027 school year.

For families dropping off students in the morning, please note that our building schedule has been updated. Doors will now open for students at 8:00 AM. If your child arrives prior to 8:00 AM, they are welcome to wait outside in front of the school or inside the main entrance vestibule until the building opens.

SMS Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up Information SMS Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up Information

Drop-off/Pick-up: Doors open at 8 am, students are welcome into the building at that time.

We ask that individuals dropping off their student at the beginning of the day or picking up their student at the end of the day pull as far forward as possible before students exit or enter your vehicle. As displayed in the photo below, we would like you to pull all the way up to the yellow marked line on the picture. Once your vehicle is stationed anywhere along the sidewalk, it is expected and encouraged that your student will get out at that point and walk into the school. Thank you for your cooperation!

"Bell to Bell, No Cell" SMS strives to create a safe environment that is academic focused, and our school has a No Cell Phone Policy for all grade levels (6-8).

We recognize that cell phones become a distraction in the learning environment and our ultimate goal is to allow students to engage in the learning environment with their peers. Students will leave their phones in their lockers or at home during the school day (8:15 AM - 2:55 PM); this will include lunch periods. All students will receive a student ID with their lunch barcode. Students will be asked to use their barcodes when receiving a school lunch. If students have misplaced their barcode, they can printed from Campus Parent/Student Portal.

We’re excited to kick off another thrilling football season in Elk River! Friday nights are a special tradition in our communities, and we can’t wait to welcome you back to the stands to cheer on our teams.

To help ensure a fun, safe, and family-friendly experience for everyone, please take a moment to review the updated stadium guidelines for the 2026 season, including a special video at the end of this message that will be shown on our screens at stadiums across the District:

Stadium Entry & Reentry

  • Gates will close at halftime.
  • Reentry will not be permitted if a guest leaves the stadium. This policy began during the 2023 Section Playoffs and will remain in place moving forward.

New Regular Season Start Time – 6:00 PM
We’re kicking things off a little earlier! As with many metro-area schools, all varsity football games will now begin at 6:00 PM to better accommodate families and support safe supervision of large crowds. We hope this change makes it easier for more fans to enjoy the game from start to finish.

Student Supervision
All elementary and middle school students must attend with a supervising adult. Students may not be dropped off or left unattended at any time. A responsible adult must stay at the game and remain close by throughout the evening.

Items Not Allowed in the Stadium
To keep the atmosphere positive and safe, the following items are prohibited:

  • Student bags (including backpacks and purses).
  • Balls, flags, face paint, props, or noisemakers.
  • Any nuisance items or pets.
  • No bicycles, E-bikes, or scooters

Reminder - Free Activity Passes for ISD 728 area Seniors (62+)
ISD728 offers an annual Senior Pass available to residents of ISD 728 communities that are 62 or older. Pick up the pass at the ISD 728 District Office in Elk River, or at any of the three traditional high schools in our communities. ID/Proof of district residence is required to obtain the pass. Passes are valid at Regular Season Home games, (including Hockey), Musical and Three Act Plays.

At ISD 728, we’re proud of the energy and school spirit our communities bring to every game. Thank you for helping us keep our stadiums welcoming, respectful, and safe for all. We’ll continue to review and update these guidelines as needed and we appreciate your continued support.

We’re looking forward to another exciting season of high school football.
