Welcome to the Hawk’s Nest! Welcome to the Hawk’s Nest!

Dear Hoover Families,

We’re excited to share this edition of our Title I, Parent & Family Engagement News with you. Title I, Part A is the largest federally funded program that provides extra support to help all students meet high academic standards. In this issue, you’ll find important information about Herbert Hoover Elementary School’s Title I, Part A eligibility, your rights as parents to know the qualifications of your child’s teachers, our school goals, and details about the Free and Reduced Lunch Program. Our goal is to keep you connected, informed, and supported as we work together to help every student soar to success.

Warm regards,

Kimberley Maurizi

Notice of Title I Program Eligibility Notice of Title I Program Eligibility

Our school receives Title I, Part A funds under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (2015). As a result, we operate a Schoolwide Title I Program.

In a Schoolwide Title I Program, eligibility is based on the percentage of students from low-income families. This designation allows us to use Title I resources to strengthen our educational programs, so that all students benefit. With input from parents and our community, our staff develops and reviews a comprehensive Schoolwide Plan to guide continuous improvement.

Throughout the year, you will receive information about your child’s academic progress and about our school’s progress toward helping all students meet high academic standards. You will also receive invitations to meetings and events about the Title I Schoolwide Program and activities, and you will be asked to help review, revise, and implement our plans. In addition to the Schoolwide Plan, we share our Parent & Family Engagement Plan and the Compact, which describe how we partner with families to support learning.

Title I includes funds set aside specifically to support family partnership (ex. workshops, learning resources, academic events, etc.). Each year, we seek your input through surveys, the Title I meetings, and parent advisory discussions on how these funds should be used. Your feedback directly shapes the activities and the support we provide for families.

You are an important partner in our effort to provide the best education possible for your child.

Right to Know Teacher Qualifications Right to Know Teacher Qualifications

As a Title I school, we must follow federal regulations under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESEA), which give you the right to learn more about your child’s teachers’ training and professional qualifications.

At any time, you may request information regarding:

● Whether your child’s teacher meets state certification requirements for the grade level and subject they are assigned to teach,

● Whether the teacher is teaching under an emergency or conditional certificate, and

● The teacher’s undergraduate or graduate degrees, certificates, and areas of concentration.

You may also request information about paraprofessionals who work with your child. If your child receives support from a paraprofessional, we will gladly share details about their qualifications.

In addition, if your child is taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher or served by a paraprofessional who does not meet the applicable Pennsylvania certification or licensure requirements, we will notify you directly.

Our staff is fully committed to ensuring your child develops the academic knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to succeed in school and beyond. That commitment includes making sure all teachers and paraprofessionals meet Pennsylvania’s certification requirements.

If you have any questions about your child’s assignment to a teacher or paraprofessional, please contact me (David Glennon) at Herbert Hoover Elementary School at (215) 809-6340.
