Greetings fellow Lions,

I am hoping that the cold and snow is behind us and warmer temperatures are coming our way.

International President AP Singh has challenged the United States with the goal of One New Member Every Two Days, the 40/20 Membership Challenge. The goal is simple and powerful: Each district is challenged to add 20 new members in the next 40 days. It is his hope that this provides an opportunity to create energy, build momentum, and grow every club. With the March Madness-Membership Challenge he challenges clubs to host a membership event in March. It is International President AP Singh's hope to turn those events into new members. If every club achieves this, our districts will not only meet the challenge, but we will also exceed it.

Clubs, if you are not already doing so, please post your service activities and hours in the portal or send the information to Lion Barry Marteny.

It ensures that all service activities are recorded and recognized, promoting transparency within the club.

It allows clubs to engage with their communities and tell stories effectively, which can lead to increased participation and support.

Reporting service activities can help clubs become eligible for service awards, enhancing their profile and credibility.

It provides tangible evidence of global engagement and impact, strengthening the organization and yielding benefits at the local level.

It helps transfer knowledge and best practices to future leaders within the club.

The time spent reporting service activities is considered volunteer hours, contributing to the overall volunteer hours of Lions and Leos.

It helps clubs understand the needs of communities and how their Lions and Leos are serving those needs, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.

By reporting service activities, Lions Clubs International can identify best practices that can be shared globally, encouraging Lions and Leos to think creatively about their projects and apply for grants themselves.

Our District Convention will be held on Saturday, April 11th at the Trinity Bible Fellowship Church in Blandon. Our Keynote Speaker will be International Director Bert Nelson from New York Mills, Minnesota. Other speakers will be William Tucker from the Royer Greaves School for the Blind, Lion Barry Marteny on LEO Clubs, and Lindy Brown AltruVision—A Lions Eye Bank. Please plan on attending the event.
District Governor's upcoming visits and events
March 4th. Exeter Township
March 5th. Kutztown / Fleetwood
March 17th. Spring Township
March 26th. Shoemakersville

Again, any thoughts and suggestions are encouraged and welcome. Please feel free to contact me anytime.

DG Mike

Hello Fellow Lions

This past month has been an active and productive one as we continue moving forward in service and leadership. In January, I attended the State Council Meeting in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where Lions from across the state came together to share updates, collaborate, and strengthen our collective impact. Throughout the month, I have also been participating in virtual District Governor training sessions. These trainings have focused on developing effective action plans, gaining a deeper understanding of the many resources and support available through Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), and learning strategies to successfully manage change within our clubs and district. In addition, I have taken part in valuable coaching sessions designed to support leadership growth and readiness for the year ahead.

Planning is well underway for our District Convention, which will be held at Trinity Bible

Fellowship in Blandon, Pennsylvania. The planning team continues to work diligently to ensure

a meaningful and successful convention for all attendees.

Finally, we held a District Cabinet Meeting in Chester County, providing an opportunity for

district leaders to gather, share updates, and align our efforts as we continue serving our

communities.

Thank you to all our Lions leaders and members for your ongoing dedication, teamwork, and

commitment to service. Together, we are preparing for a strong and impactful year ahead.

LIONS 14-P SPRING TREE PLANTING EFFORT

Hello Lions

As “Environment” is one of the service goals emphasized by LCI this year, I would like to recommend that our District clubs conduct tree planting this spring, 2026.

In looking at various options locally and elsewhere, I think that the simplest way to order and receive trees is through the Arbor Day Foundation. Trees can be readily ordered online and shipped directly to you. You can order bare root trees, potted trees and even other varieties like hydrangea. The available variety is quite extensive. Much information is available on the site about how to plant for success.

As we get into February, consider beneficial locations and get permission to plant in your community. If you’ve decided to move forward, assign someone to handle the ordering process, considering the will of the club in terms of location, tree type, quantity needed and manpower to accomplish. Decide on a schedule. Order your trees within the shipping window and relative to your schedule to conduct the planting activity. Plan for the equipment and planting materials you will need.

Bare root tree suggestion: Bare root trees arrive in packs of 50 for $79. If you are participating in a community event this spring, why not consider just freely handing them out? At that price, it’s almost as cheap as giving out pens and it is unique! (Staple a Lions Club card to each?)

Ordering through the Arbor Day Foundation:

· Go to www.ArborDayFoundation.org

· Shop

· Nursery (We are in hardiness zone 7)

· Top bar, see “Tree Nursery” Option (Then I liked the clicking on “all trees” option to see everything)

· For bare root option, then click on the “bulk seedlings” option from column on left

· For the shipping schedule, click on the “shipping schedule” option from the column on the left – Spring Shipping Schedule (Again, hardiness zone 7)

From there, you’re on your own…

Notes:

· Of course, if you find it works better for you, you could use your local retail greenhouse and just purchase the trees you want. There are, of course, many other online companies to choose.

· Consider whether you want any wire/plastic cages to protect the young trees (local purchase)

· For planting, many commercial potting soils contain fertilizers which is not recommended for planting – organic material such as compost is OK

· To distribute individual bare root trees, gently separate the trees and wrap the roots in damp (not dripping) paper, shredded newspaper or burlap, then place in baggie secured loosely with twist tie. Keep roots cool, moist and protected from the sun until planting

Questions? I’ll try to help.

Good morning, LEO advisors and Liaisons!

I wanted to reach out to remind you of a few important LEO items:

  1. There is a consent box on the back on the LEO application giving you permission to enter the LEO info in the portal. PLEASE be sure all LEOS are entered into the portal. Please enter officers and service projects. LEO data is lacking in PA.

  2. This is the time to start planning for your graduating senior LEO to transfer to a LION'S club.

Note- THERE ARE 148 LEOS in PA aging out, and that isn't even all of them because so many have not been entered into the portal.

If your LEO club has 10 or more aging out (see list below) you can charter a LEO-LIONS club so they can all stick together. Even if they are going out of state for college. Contact me for assistance. This is a great way to keep their service going ....

District H has 10 from Blue Ridge LEO Club

District M has 12 from Windber LEO Club

District N has 17 from Armstrong River Hawks LEO Club

District P has 14 from Great Valley LEO Club

District T has 14 from West Perry LEO club

Let's Keep these LEOs together in LEO-Lions Clubs (see attached flyer)

Let's help transition the 146+ graduating LEOS over to their sponsoring Lions Club.

We are missing the boat on young membership, and this is a great opportunity. Linda

Charter a New LEO-Lions Club:

 New club requires a minimum of 20 members, 10 of which must be a

former LEO who has served for at least 1 year and 1 day.

 Former LEOs will need to be transferred to the LEO-Lion club in the

portal so their record is merged.

 LEO-LION club members can meet virtually to accommodate those in

college and participate in service projects.

 Encourage the LEO-Lions to recruit their peers to join and every year,

welcome other LEOs who are aging out.

 Young adult membership is an exclusive membership type for those

under the age of 30. They receive a 50% discount on international

dues and a charter or entrance fee waiver when they join the LEO-Lion

club.

 Chartering this LEO-Lion club follows the same procedure for

chartering a Lions Club.

Recommendation-

Review your list of LEOS aging out in your district. If there is a club with 10

or more, you already have the foundation to start a LEO-Lion club.

LEO to Lion Benefits:

 Continued service with even more service opportunities

 50% discount on international dues

 Years of Leo service credited to your Lion record

 Continued interaction with your LEO club friends (LEO-Lion club)

 Opportunity to join the LinkedIn Leo-Lion professional networking

group

 Participation virtually if away at college

 Participation in service projects while at college and when home on

school breaks.

 Resume building community service

 Leadership and life skills

 Opportunities for leadership positions

 Contribution to a cause greater than oneself

Notice: District 14-P Convention Food Drive

Hello All Lions

Please be advised that a collection of food donations for local food banks will take place at the District 14-P Convention. I am encouraging our Lions Clubs to participate in collecting food and getting it to the District Convention on April 11 th. This is in keeping with one of this year’s LCI service goals of addressing hunger. Donated food will be divided and distributed to the clearinghouses for food donations in both Chester County (Chester County Food Bank) and Berks County (Helping Harvest). Both organizations have good information about collecting food on their websites if you need more detail. Please address this project at your club meetings, plan for a designated date for your collection (in advance of the convention) and identify those attending the convention to transport your donations. You may want to begin setting some boxes aside. Notes about food donation guidelines:

 NO GLASS PRODUCTS/ITEMS

 Items cannot be expired or in rusted, dented or leaking containers

 Food items must contain product ingredients (no unidentifiable bags or cans can be used – no

homemade items)

 Nonperishable food in plastic, cardboard or cans works best

 Consider including non-food items that are needed such as personal hygiene, feminine hygiene,

diapers, toilet paper, paper plates and cups

I will need a few volunteers with a truck or van to help transport the donations from the convention on the

day of. Trucks should have a covered bed in case of rain (as the food will not be able to be delivered until

Monday-Friday of the following week). We will need delivery to Helping Harvest in Reading and Chester

County Food Bank in Exton. Potential volunteers can let me know.

Of course, financial support is also welcomed by these organizations if your club would rather do that.

As always, be sure to document your club efforts by entering project into LCI database.

I will usually receive a request from several Clubs to purchase and prepare a basket for their Club. Provided the Club sends me the $50.00 for purchasing the items to go into the Basket for their Club, I will be happy to create a Basket for that Club and take it to the Convention to be used in the raffle.

Remember, the better the Baskets, the more money we can raise to help offset some of the cost of the Convention.

PEACE POSTER CONTEST

It's not too early to start thinking which schools you can contact about the PEACE POSTER CONTEST.

September to Deadline in October is a very short time for the students to work on their posters.

For last year's contest the District only received 2 posters. The Poster doesn't have to come from a Leo; any student can enter. Please think about reaching out to schools in your area and encourage them to do a poster.
