On June 12, about 800 graduates from the Bonney Lake High School and Sumner High School Class of 2023 walked across the stage at the Tacoma Dome to receive their diplomas!

We are so proud of our graduates. To pass along some words of wisdom from our class and faculty speakers at each graduation: Embrace your whimsy and wonder, leave the world better than you found it, choose kindness, and seek your goals and seize them!

The SBLSD Native American Education Program held its End of Year Celebration on June 14 to honor graduating seniors and 8th and 5th graders moving up in the program. These students are part of many tribes, including the Blackfeet Nation in Montana, the Yakama Nation and the Quinault Indian Nation, to name a few.

Among the activities this year, students learned how to make fry bread, attended a Native Teachings Day at the Puyallup Tribe of Indians’ Youth Center in Fife, and participated in field trips to colleges to hear directly from members of local tribes. Thank you to our program managers for helping our students learn about their cultures and feel known, valued and supported.
