β¨πHON 101 Tuition-Free This Year!πβ¨
The Pima Governing Board has approved a tuition waiver for all HON 101 courses during Fall 2022, Spring 2023, and Summer 2023. If you've been waiting to try out HON 101, now is the perfect time!
And remember: HON 101 automatically substitutes for any STU 100, STU 106, or STU 107 requirements in your degree or program, no paperwork needed!
Did you know? Finding ALL available Honors Courses is easy!
We hope you'll consider adding honors courses to your schedule, and now finding honors offerings is easier than ever!
If none of those meet your needs, you can turn ANY course into honors credit by working with your Honors Coordinator to design and complete an Honors Contract. Keep reading for more information!
HON 101: Honors Colloquium
Each section is shaped by the instructor's interests, but they all include opportunities to direct your learning and dive deeply into topics that are meaningful to you.
Available section for Summer:
- Modern Myths and World Mythology (Online 8-week 5/31-7/26): COVID-19, lizard people, the Illuminati, and Q-ANON have more in common with the stories of Vishnu, Coyote, Zeus, and Ishtar than you'd think! In this class we will be investigating how humans use myths and stories to make sense of their world. We'll be studying mythology in the classical, academic sense, but then we will see how ancient myths and mythological concepts apply to modern social and political phenomena. With lots of possibilities for your final project, this course will be a great opportunity to explore your interests this summer! (CRN 30842 with Emily Besich)
Available sections for Fall:
- Board Games Are Life (In Person 16-week): Did you ever feel that games have the power to change the world? Come explore the notion with your fellow honors students, as we learn how the same skills that make a compelling board game can be used to influence behavior and promote social justice! (CRN 10047 with Kyley Segers)
- Be the Change You Wish to See (Online 14-week): This section focuses on creating meaningful social change and personal empowerment. Students will learn about self-actualization in an applied way by having opportunities to directly volunteer for organizations and through assignments investigating the science of well-being. Apply a psychological lens, develop critical thinking skills, and foster an understanding of research methods. (CRN 12213 with Dr. Caroline Pyevich)
- Your Social Imagination (Online 14-week): Student imaginations and fascinations and experiences direct the subject matter of this course. We spend the first month thinking about society, the effects of culture, and the social imagination. After that, we discern meaningful topics for the students, commence scholarly investigations, and participate in society with volunteer hours. The final projects in this course are in tandem, where students create a website and a research paper or alternative project to articulate and share their findings. (CRN 11789 with Frankie Rollins)
Important: HON 101 replaces STU 100, STU 106, or STU 107 in any degree pathway. No special paperwork is needed - simply enroll in HON 101 to meet the STU 100, STU 106, or STU 107 requirements in your degree plan.
HON 210: Honors Advisory Council

HON 296: Honors Independent Study Project
This course must be planned in advance. Please contact your faculty member to discuss this option before the start of the semester.
