The Weekly Highlander

We have a busy week ahead at Hewes. This week our choir will be joining Foothill High School and performing on Tuesday and Thursday at 7:30 pm in their annual show. The Hewes choir students are excited to join the performance of Knights on the Movies, please come out, attend, and support both choir programs.

Next Friday, February 9th our ASB is sponsoring the Valentine’s Day Dance from 2:45pm – 4:00pm. Tickets will be sold in 1st-period classes Monday – Thursday for $3, a signed permission slip is required to buy the ticket. Next week ASB is also sponsoring dress-up days for Spirit Week. Join the fun and show your school spirit by wearing pink, red, fuzzy socks, dress like your Valentine (twin day), and PJ day.

This week in homeroom we started talking to our 6th and 7th graders about their elective choices for next year. We will be sending home information about each elective and the counseling newsletter will be focused on registration, this process, and how parents will be involved.

The Hewes staff is recognizing HIGHLANDERS “H” FOR A DAY AWARD! Highlander for a Day is a program at Hewes Middle School that celebrates students for incredible moments in the areas of Respect, Responsibility, and Results.

Friday, February 9th ASB is sponsoring the Valentine’s Day Dance from 2:45pm – 4:00pm. Tickets will be sold in 1st-period classes Monday – Thursday for $3 (cash only). A signed permission slip is required to buy the ticket. NOT TICKETS WILL BE SOLD ON FRIDAY!

In homeroom this week our 6th and 7th grade students explored the elective course catalog. It is that time of year when students learn about what elective courses will be offered for the 24 - 25 school year! Families can also view the elective course catalog on Hewes' website. It is important to talk to your students about what they are interested in for next year. Every elective is a yearlong course, so we want our students to make choices based on what their interests are or what they are curious about. Please keep an eye out for the counseling newsletter next week to learn more about the elective course request process."

Every semester, we are required to notify families of our Title IX Nondiscrimination Policy. Please see the attached flyers provided in English and Spanish. Our goal is to keep students safe in TUSD.

This week our Mental Health Specialist, Ms.Wongyai, was awarded a Good Idea Grant from the Rotary Club of Tustin - Santa Ana. Her project will be a journaling program for Hewes students as a way to express and process their emotions.

The last day for 8th graders to turn in their baby photos for the yearbook is Wednesday, February 7th. Don’t miss out on this special tradition for our 8th-grade class.
