It serves as the one-stop location for new student registration, updates to student information, address changes, and guidance on enrollment requirements such as immunization records and proof of residency. The office also assists with questions about school boundaries, transfers, and program placements, ensuring families are connected with the right school and services.

PreK, K, and Focus School One Stop Shop - October 7th, 2025

Please join us for our PreK, K, and Focus School One Stop Shop on October 7 from 5:30–7 p.m. at the Center for Learning (15 Map Drive). This event is a great opportunity to get information about kindergarten registration, learn about our focus schools, and have your questions answered.

Early Childhood Screening

Early Childhood Screening is required before your child can start kindergarten. This free screening is an important step in supporting your child’s readiness for school. It helps identify strengths and areas where your child may need support in development, vision, hearing, and overall health—giving families and schools valuable information to ensure a strong start in kindergarten.
If your child has not yet been screened, please visit https://mapsisd77ecs.youcanbook.me/ to book an appointment. For additional questions about Early Childhood Screenings, please call (507) 625-4620.

Safety & Security - Standard Response Protocol

MAPS' schools are required by state law to hold 11 safety drills with students each year: 5 fire drills, 5 lockdown drills, and 1 severe weather drill. At MAPS, we use the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) from I Love U Guys, which uses simple, action-based terms so students and staff know exactly what to do to stay safe. You may hear some of this language from your child when they talk about drills.

The first action we are highlighting is Evacuate, which is used for fire drills.

Evacuate is the protocol used to move students and staff from one location to a different location in or out of the building. An on-site evacuation is conducted usually because of a mechanical failure that would disrupt the school day, such as a power outage. An off-site evacuation may be necessary when it’s no longer safe to stay in the building.

Board work session on new Vision Card

Last night, the School Board held a work session to review a proposed set of new Vision Cards, a direct outcome of the strategic plan our Board adopted last year. This document translates the Board’s strategic goals into tangible, measurable actions for our community to see. It provides a clear and honest look at MAPS’s performance in five critical areas: fostering high-level student academic achievement; enhancing student support systems; recruiting and retaining excellent staff; strengthening partnerships with parents and caregivers; and ensuring our safe, efficient, and effective operations.

For each key measure, the card shows our "Current Status" and our ambitious "Vision," giving our community a snapshot of where we are today and where we are committed to going. The Board will utilize these Vision Cards as a primary tool for ensuring accountability and public transparency. It presents concrete data that will guide our governance, drive district-led initiatives, and allow us to publicly track our progress toward specific goals. The Board will formally adopt the Vision Cards at our October 6th meeting, at which point they will be available publicly. We invite our families and the entire community to follow our progress as we work together to deliver on our promise of excellence, equity, and empowerment for every student, every day.

Board passes funding for building maintenance

At its July meeting, the Mankato Area Public School Board unanimously approved a $42 million investment plan to enhance and maintain our school facilities. This initiative underscores our commitment to providing safe and effective learning environments for all students.

The centerpiece of this plan is a $37.6 million allocation for air conditioning and indoor air quality upgrades at Kennedy, Eagle Lake, Hoover, and Bridges Elementaries. The remaining funds will address other essential infrastructure needs across the district such as roofing, flooring, and parking lot maintenance.

This critical investment, made possible through a combination of dedicated state and local funds, allows us to proactively care for our district’s 1.8 million square feet of facilities, which have an average age of 53 years. The School Board is proud to continue its long-standing tradition of ensuring our schools are well-maintained and equipped to serve our children and community for generations to come.

Two Gents by Ten Thousand Things

Location: Dakota Meadows Middle School

Date: September 26

Time: 6:30 pm

Description: Based on Shakespeare’s Two Gentlemen of Verona, two best friends—one who resists love and one who falls headfirst into it—separate to find their way in life. On their journeys, each is struck by cupid’s arrow, but as friendship and love soon cross, it’s up to the “objects” of their affections to set things right. In this reimagined Shakespearean comedy, lovers, servants, suitors, and outlaws all collide in an identity-swapping, rip-roaring, clown-around comedy with a feminist heart.

Oklahoma!

Location: Ted Paul Theatre, Minnesota State University, Mankato

Date: October 10

Time: 7:30 pm

Description: Rodgers & Hammerstein’s first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, setting the standards and rules of modern musical theatre. In a Western territory just after the turn of the 20th century, a high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides a colorful background for Curly, a charming cowboy, and Laurey, a feisty farm girl, to play out their love story. Their romantic journey, as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road, contrasts with the comic exploits of brazen Ado Annie and hapless Will Parker in a musical adventure embracing hope, determination and the promise of a new land.
