Greeley Safety Week
From the Director of Safety & Security
August 30, 2026
Dear Greeley School Community:
August 31st - September 4th will mark Week 1 of the District’s Third Annual Safety Month. The goal of this week is to raise awareness about school safety among our students, parents, staff, and community members. The purpose of this communication is to provide more information on the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) Winnetka Public Schools is implementing. We are intentionally sharing our school schedule with you and these tips before practicing the response so that parents can have conversations with their children to reinforce safety and what to do in an emergency situation.
The schedule for Greeley is:
Where can families help?
-Discuss the importance of these drills
-Let your child know the school made you aware that there was a lockdown drill that day. Children feel safer when they know that families and schools are working together
-Talk to your student about the drill and discuss how they felt
-Ask if they would like to talk about it and let their comments guide you. Children process events in many ways. Some children would prefer not to talk about it, which is okay, too. Some children may simply want to spend some together in a shared activity with few words
-Address how these skills could be applied to situations outside of school (i.e. Village festivals, concerts, malls or other mass gatherings)
Thank you for your partnership as we work together to foster best practices in safety and security in our schools.
Sincerely,
Ray Finnerty
Director of Safety & Security
