Dear Lindblom Families and Students,

We are staying focused on what matters. As we move further into the school year, I want to pause and reflect on the strength of one of our core “Be”lief Pillars is Be Inclusive. This is not just a phrase on the pillars in our lobby, it is a daily commitment.

Being inclusive means we support and uplift all Eagles (students, staff, and families) regardless of race, gender identity, socio-economic status, or age. The lived experiences of our students and families are valid and valued. Our inclusivity efforts are grounded in identity and empathy, with the overall goal of building a school community where every Eagle feels they belong. This also means celebrating our own identities and beliefs while learning from others, deepening our empathy and strengthening the ties that unite us.

Parent Partnership & Safety

  • Student safety is a collective effort. Dismissal is at 3:05p on most school days. Please make arrangements for your child to be picked up by 5:00 p.m. if they are not in afterschool programming or athletics

  • While we graciously allow students to remain on campus after dismissal, some have been leaving school property on foot or scooters. Please note: once students leave campus, we cannot ensure their safety in the surrounding neighborhood.

  • If teachers reach out regarding your child’s academic engagement or performance, please respond promptly. Our teachers have firsthand knowledge of your child’s progress and want to partner with you in their success.

  • Finally, if you haven’t already done so, please complete and return the media consent form so your student can fully participate in our ABC7 Friday Flyover event.

Last but not least, thank you to our parents and community partners for planning our
Back to School Bash .Together, through inclusion, safety, and partnership, we continue to strengthen our school community.

Together we rise onward & upward,

Principal Banks

This year, our school is partnering with the Office of Student Protection and Title IX (OSP) to implement a Bystander Intervention Curriculum, a proactive effort by the district to increase student sense of belonging and reduce bias-based harm in our school community. This comprehensive curriculum is designed to cultivate identity-affirming learning environments where students feel confident stepping into themselves and standing up for one another.

The Office of Student Protection and Title IX (OSP) Bystander Intervention Curriculum engages students in following learning objectives using developmentally appropriate language and activities:

-Students will develop positive social identities based on their membership in multiple groups in society.

-Students will respond to diversity by building empathy, respect, understanding and connection

-Students will recognize unfairness on the individual level (e.g., biased speech)

-Students will recognize their own responsibility to stand up to exclusion, prejudice and injustice

-Students will speak up with courage and respect when they or someone else has been hurt or wronged by bias.

The lessons have been broken down by grade bands, range from 15 minutes in early grades and up to 60 minutes for older grades, and may be taught within advisory on Colloquium Day or a regular instructional day by a teacher.

If you have any questions related to the curriculum, please reach out to Mr. Alaves (grades 7th-8th) or RJC Brown (grades 9th-12) and they will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you for being a valued member of our school community!

Alumni Spotlight

Triano Williams is a proud Lindblom alumnus from the Class of 1995, and he embodies the spirit of resilience and dedication forged in his hometown of Chicago's Englewood neighborhood. Recognizing each day as a gift, Triano made the most of his time at Lindblom, leaving an indelible mark on the school community. His high school years were a testament to his vibrant personality and leadership abilities, culminating in being named as the class flirt for the yearbook and homecoming king.

He was a member of the National Honor Society, Senior Brothers, also the youngest-ever lieutenant colonel in the ROTC, a title he held from junior through senior year. He was a leader on both the rifle and drill teams, guiding them through state competitions, and was also a dedicated member of the stage crew. His exceptional public speaking skills led to the honor of introducing prominent figures like Jesse Jackson Jr. and Lawrence Tate on separate occasions. His hard work and commitment were formally recognized when he was named the "Most Outstanding Junior." Which came with a High trophy!

Upon graduation, Triano attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), a path he chose over a full-ride acceptance to Xavier University in Louisiana due to the fear of leaving home. He reflects on the missed opportunity of attending an HBCU, but cherishes the experience at SIUC. It was there that he became a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated, in 1996. He describes his brotherhood as a bond like no other, and it continues to be a cornerstone of his life.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems, graduating with a 3.75 GPA on the Dean's List. He rejoined ROTC and the rifle team, this time training with real firearms like a 9mm and M60. After college, his plans to join AT&T as a systems engineer were derailed by the events of 9/11 and the ensuing hiring freeze. Unfazed, he pivoted to education, taking a position at Prairie Hill Junior High. There, he taught students and teachers how to use various applications and mentored students to improve their math grades and test scores.

Triano is now a certified cybersecurity expert and currently works as a cybersecurity analyst, a role that he thoroughly enjoys. Beyond his professional career, he is committed to giving back to his community. Along with his fraternity brothers, he founded the Blue and White Foundation, a non-profit that provides scholarships, book awards, and shopping sprees to inner-city youth, with a focus on essays exploring the African-American experience.

He also serves as the head of cybersecurity for Viola's House, a non-profit that assists displaced pregnant teens and mothers with housing, education, and basic life skills. In his entrepreneurial pursuits, he is a licensed life insurance agent, dedicated to educating people on generational wealth, compound interest, and proper retirement planning to ensure their financial security. Through his varied career and selfless dedication, he hopes to exemplify the success that can be achieved through leadership, education, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.
