🌳 Tree Planting Day 🌳 Tree Planting Day

DaVinci Academy recently hosted the inspiring Our Town Trees exhibit, where students learned about Minnesota's native trees through interactive displays and educational programming. The exhibit was a great success.

Now, it’s time to take that knowledge outdoors! Our highly anticipated Tree Planting Day is just around the corner on September 10. This event offers students a hands-on opportunity to apply what they’ve learned by planting trees right here on our school grounds.

We’re in need of parent volunteers to help lead classrooms through the tree planting process. If you’re interested in making a lasting impact on our students and our environment, please join us for this exciting day. Volunteer training will be provided on the morning of the event, ensuring you’re fully prepared to engage with the students and teach them the importance of tree care and environmental stewardship.

Sign up to volunteer today and help us make a lasting impact on our school and community!

How We Raise Funds

The School Development Committee, composed of DaVinci staff and board members, is dedicated to raising funds for critical investments and projects that enhance our students' educational experience. Each school year, the committee organizes three major fundraising events:

  • October 1-9: BoosterThon Fundraiser
  • March: TBD
  • May 16: Golf Event

Why Support DaVinci Academy?

DaVinci Academy of Arts and Science is a public charter school that provides a high-quality education comparable to that of private institutions. However, unlike traditional public schools, DaVinci faces unique financial challenges. Our school does not benefit from local, voter-approved property tax levies, which are a significant source of funding for other public schools. As a result, DaVinci receives approximately $2,650 less per student each year—totaling over $2 million in reduced funding. Just imagine what we could achieve if we had access to the same resources as traditional public schools.

Your Dollars at Work

Your generous contributions have made a profound impact on our students' lives. Here’s how your support has helped us achieve our goals:

  • Playground Enhancements: We've added new equipment to provide a safe, engaging environment where children can play and develop their physical skills.
  • Outdoor Shade Structure: This addition offers a cool, comfortable space for students during recess, particularly on hot days.
  • Pavilion: The pavilion now serves as a versatile outdoor area for classes, school events, and group activities.
  • 9-Square Game: This popular addition fosters friendly competition and social interaction among students.
  • New Swing Set: We've installed a new swing set, offering even more fun opportunities for our students.
  • Building Security Upgrades: Enhanced security systems ensure a safer environment for both students and staff.
  • Middle School ELC Field Trips: Your donations have made it possible for students to participate in enriching field trips, extending their learning beyond the classroom.
  • New Student Chromebooks: We've expanded our technology resources, providing new Chromebooks to students and increasing our 1:1 technology ratio. This ensures that every student has the tools they need for digital learning.

And there’s more to come! We have several exciting projects in the pipeline, all thanks to your ongoing support.

Support Our School: One-Time Giving Option Now Available

We understand that many families prefer to make a one-time, larger donation at the start of the school year, rather than participating in multiple fundraising events throughout the school year. We're pleased to offer that option now! If you'd like to contribute at the beginning of the year, please use the donation link provided below.

Thank you for your unwavering support!

September is Suicide Prevention Month

September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and we are committed to equipping your family with the tools needed to navigate conversations about mental health and suicide.

While pain is not always immediately apparent, individuals who are contemplating suicide often exhibit signs of distress. These signs may manifest through conversations, behaviors, or social media activity. If you notice one or more of the following warning signs—particularly if they are new, intensified, or linked to a recent painful event or significant change—it is crucial to intervene:

Understanding Warning Signs

  • Talking about wanting to die: This may include expressions of hopelessness or despair.
  • Uncontrolled anger: Frequent outbursts or increased frustration over minor issues.
  • Reckless behavior: Engaging in dangerous or risky activities without regard for safety.
  • Changes in sleep: Insomnia or excessive sleeping patterns.
  • Feeling hopeless, desperate, or a lack of purpose: Expressing feelings of worthlessness or insignificance.
  • Withdrawal: Isolating from friends and family.
  • Sudden changes in mood: Extreme fluctuations in emotions.
  • Talking about being a burden: Expressing feelings of inadequacy or self-blame.
  • Giving away prized possessions: Indicating a sense of finality or preparation for departure.

How to Talk to Your Child

  • Be prepared with crisis resources (see list below).
  • If you feel uncomfortable, practice what you might say ahead of time.
  • Choose a calm moment to talk when you aren’t rushed.
  • Don’t tiptoe around the conversation; ask directly if your child is thinking about suicide.
  • Listen actively and express concern; validate their feelings without judgment.
  • Let them know you care and take their feelings seriously.
  • Discuss their reasons for living and dying, emphasizing that living is a viable option.
  • Assure them that you will help them find support, and reach out for help immediately.
  • If you feel your child is at risk, inquire about a plan and remove or restrict any means in the home.
