Review: Topic of the Week: Being an Upstander

Ms. Reynolds talked to students about the importance of being an upstander this week! We talked about ways to be an upstander.

In every situation we can be an upstander and make things better, a bystander and not help, or a bully and make things worse. We can only choose our own actions. Check the slides below for some ways your student can be an upstander this week!

Walking Wednesdays!

Rolling and Strolling to School: A Bike, Walk & Scooter Bus Initiative

Building Stronger Attendance and Community, One Ride at a Time

Starting this year, we’re launching a Bike, Walk & Scooter Bus—a fun, active, and safe way for students to commute to school together—every Wednesday morning!

This “rolling school bus” is made up of students and adult volunteers who meet at set locations and travel as a group to school, whether they’re biking, scootering, or walking. Like a traditional school bus, we’ll have scheduled “stops” along the route to pick up more friends, all arriving to school on time, energized, and ready to learn.

The goal of this initiative is to help increase student attendance and punctuality by providing a consistent, enjoyable, and low-barrier way to get to school. Many families face transportation challenges or rushed morning routines. The Bike, Walk & Scooter Bus helps by creating a positive, social structure that encourages healthy habits and a smooth start to the school day.

Key Benefits:

  • Improves attendance and punctuality through routine and accountability
  • Supports physical and mental health with active movement before school
  • Creates a sense of community, belonging, and excitement
  • Reduces traffic congestion and pollution near campus
  • Builds responsibility, independence, and confidence in students

We’re currently building interest and mapping out safe, accessible routes. Volunteers, staff, and families are all welcome to join in. Whether your child walks, bikes, or scoots, everyone is invited to be part of this Wednesday morning tradition!

Our Bike Bus Stop Schedule is:

7:30am Brookside Apartments Main Entrance

7:34am First Street and R Street

7:42am First Street and O Street

7:45am Arrival at First Street School for No-Cost Breakfast!

Let’s roll—and stroll—together!

Box Tops for Education

Box Tops for Education

Box Tops collection continues digitally all year with the Box Tops app. First Street School gets $0.10 for each Box Top scanned for our school. While that isn't much on its own, the whole school community collecting them from Participating Products throughout the year can earn enough to pay for things like software memberships, supplies for classroom activities, or other low cost school support.

  • Earn Box Tops for participating products by scanning receipts with the Box Tops app.
  • When you shop online or use delivery services, you can earn Box Tops by forwarding your e-receipt to receipts@boxtops4education.com or by uploading it with the Box Tops app. Learn more about submitting e-receipts here.
