Weekly Update

Dear Elmore School Families,

Our 15th week of school flew by in a flurry of snow and wind and cheer! We had some pretty wiid weather outside feeling more like January than December. Thursday morning the lake was filled with snow rollers (photo courtesy of Ericka Bellavance, below), a natural phenomenon that occurs with just the right weather conditions. We had bitter cold temperatures and what felt like continuous snow all week!

This week the students were busy with so many projects as the classroom transformed into a workshop! We had students creating Secret Pal gifts consisting of woodworking, sculpting, gluing, painting, and more. A few students have completed their projects while others will be working on them into next week. It takes a fair amount of coordination to get all the supplies needed, and create space and time for students to create them. In addition to Secret Pal projects we have also been busy making cards, and craft projects for the holidays. Mrs. Bellanvance has washed countless paint brushes and paint pallets over the past few days.

Additionally, our refrigerator decided to top working on Wednesday. I'm grateful to the facilities crew who acted promptly to get us a replacement which was delivered and installed Friday morning, and the kitchen crew who delivered our cold lunches and milk in an insulated cooler bag with an icepack to keep lunches fresh.

Amongst all the business, students continued learning! we had regular phonics lessons and spelling practice, writing assignments, and individual reading skills practice with Lexia Core 5, literacy centers, and reading time.

In math, first graders continued solving different types of story problems involving addition and subtraction, while second graders completed another unit and ended the week with a unit assessment. Third graders are continuing to relate Area to multiplication. During math menu time, all students are reviewing and practicing skills with differentiated activities, puzzles, and games.

Next week will have our first "School Spirit Week" Each day student are invited to show their spirit by dressing in the day's theme! (see the flier below) Students who come dressed in the theme (in some way) earn an extra ticket for the day!

Our next Family Hot Lunch will be on Monday, December 22nd provided by Joy Many, who is planning to bring a cozy homemade soup!

School Hot Lunch will be available next week on Monday and Wednesday. Sandwiches and Salads can be ordered Monday - Friday. Please use the Green button below to email me you school lunch orders by Sunday at 6pm.

Thanks for another great week!

In Gratitude,

Diane Nicholls
