Principal's Weekly Update

October 30, 2026

Dear Cambridge Elementary Community,

What an extraordinary, energy-filled week we have had at CES! As a newcomer to this wonderful community, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that Cambridge Elementary has the most spirit of any school I have ever been to. Everywhere I turn in our school, there are amazing things happening for kids.

Our monthly Celebration of Learning (COL) and costume parade were absolute highlights! It was wonderful to see our students and staff express their creativity, celebrate each other's achievements, and share in the fun together. Our Glee Club gave an amazing performance that truly blew us away!

The excitement hasn't been limited to our special events, either. If you have walked past the gymnasium recently, you have likely seen our students scaling new heights during our PE rock climbing unit! Watching our Wildcats challenge themselves, build confidence, and cheer on their peers as they reach for the top is inspiring.

Thank you to our outstanding students, staff, and families for bringing so much heart and energy to CES every single day. I feel so proud and grateful to be part of this incredible school community.

Wishing you all a wonderful, safe, and joyful weekend ahead!

Warmly,

Kim Lesny
Principal, Cambridge Elementary School

  1. Last Month:
The October meeting included discussion about the Food Service contract, an update from Mark Stebbins and Superintendent Gallagher about the Act 170 Merger Committee, and presentation of a proposed memorial to be added to the CES playground.
  2. What's Next:
The November meeting will be the start of the FY28 budget planning. The vote on the budget is in March, but this is the time to ask questions, gain insight into the process, understand decisions being made and what they mean for our students. 6 Minute video: How does VT pay for schools?
  3. Did You Know?
One of the school board's most important responsibilities is adopting the annual budget. The board works to balance educational needs, student opportunities, and fiscal responsibility.

Stay Connected! Districtwide Communication Test – November 6

As winter approaches, Lamoille North wants to make sure our families are receiving important school communications, including weather-related closures, delays, safety notifications, and student updates.

On Friday, November 6 at 6:00 PM, we'll conduct a districtwide test of our communication system. Families can expect to receive a test message through phone, email, Infinite Campus inbox, and text message (if activated).

We encourage all parents and guardians to take a few moments before November 6 to review their contact information in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Text messaging is a great way to receive timely updates, but families must activate this feature to receive messages.

Strong school-to-home communication is essential, and we appreciate your help in keeping our families informed, connected, and prepared!

To Complete the Annual Update Process:

  1. Log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal Account.
  2. In the left menu, select More → Online Registration Update, and click Start next to Annual Update Forms.
  3. Be sure to click SUBMIT when finished.

If you don’t yet have a Parent Portal account, email IC-support@lnsd.org for assistance.

Feeling the Winter Blues? You’re Not Alone.

Winter can feel heavy - shorter days, colder weather, less time outside, and changes in routine can affect mood and energy. It’s normal to notice shifts in how you’re feeling during this time of year.

Some signs to watch for include:

  • Feeling more tired than usual
  • Losing interest in things you usually enjoy
  • Feeling down, irritable, or disconnected
  • Sleeping more (or less) than usual
  • Wanting to isolate or withdraw from others

If these feelings last more than a couple of weeks, or start to interfere with school, friendships, or daily life, it’s important to reach out. Talking with a trusted adult, school counselor, coach, or friend can make a real difference.

Small things can help too - staying connected, getting outside when possible, keeping a routine, and doing something kind for yourself or someone else. You don’t have to handle it alone.

Sharing Priority

Cambridge Area Rotary – Bike for Friends Program: This collaborative community program connects gently used high-end bicycles with individuals who may not otherwise have access to them.

  • Donating a Bike: Those with gently used, high-quality bicycles they no longer need can

contribute to this meaningful community initiative.

  • Each BFF recipient will also receive a new bike helmet!

  • Individuals or families in need of a bike or bikes are encouraged to reach out to learn about available options and the application process.

    • No questions are asked about income levels.

    • On behalf of recipients, social service agencies, case managers, youth leaders, educators, and the like are encouraged to make requests too!

  • For both bike requests and donations, interested parties should contact: Sam Lotto, swlvt57@gmail.com, Phone/Text: 802-793-5509
