Parent Hawk Talk
October 19th - 23rd
Direct From Dylla’s Desk
Hello, Hobby Families!
Somehow, we still managed to pack five days of learning, excitement, and activities into a short week! It was another busy and productive week at Hobby, and we have plenty to celebrate.
Report Cards and Supporting Student Success
Report cards for the first nine weeks are now in the hands of our students, and grades are also available through the parent HAC portal. This is a great opportunity to review your student's progress, celebrate their successes, and identify areas where they may need additional support.
If your student struggled academically during the first nine weeks, we have a plan to help them get back on track!
Some students will be offered course protection, a computer-based learning program designed to help students revisit and strengthen their understanding of the standards and concepts they struggled with during the grading period. This program is supervised and supported by a Hobby teacher who will help guide students through the learning process.
Other students will receive targeted support through morning tutoring with their classroom teachers. These sessions are designed to close learning gaps, reinforce important skills, and build the confidence students need to be successful moving forward.
As always, we offer morning tutoring opportunities across all grade levels and core content areas. I encourage all families to stay connected through the parent HAC portal. Monitoring your student's progress and maintaining communication with teachers are two of the most important ways we can work together to support academic success.
Fall Into Learning – What a Great Night!
Thank you to all our families who joined us for our annual Fall Into Learning event! It was a wonderful evening filled with learning, creativity, music, and fun.
Our choir, band, and orchestra students put on fantastic performances! You would have thought they had been practicing together all year. It was a great reminder of the talent, dedication, and passion our students bring to Hobby every day.
Families also had the opportunity to participate in more than 25 engaging activities throughout the evening. One of my favorite things about events like this is seeing students excited about learning, having fun with their families, and wanting to spend even more time at Hobby after the school day ends. That says a lot about the school community we continue to build together.
Thank you to our teachers and staff who made the evening possible and to our families for continuing to show up and support our students. Our success as a campus is built on the partnership between our students, staff, and families. Together, we continue to create a school where students are challenged, supported, and encouraged to achieve at high levels.
Thank you for another great week, Hobby Family! I hope everyone enjoys a wonderful weekend filled with rest, family time, and plenty of Positive Purple Power!
We look forward to seeing all our Hawks back on Monday!
As always, your proud principal,
Greg Dylla

Our 7th graders had their first guest speaker series today and had a blast learning more about the opportunities that a Pharmacy career can offer. We want to thank Champs Pharmacy and a Mail order pharmacy for taking the time to meet with our students today. We also had special visitors from Health Careers and they shared more about Pharmacy as one of the programs the campus offers for NISD students. A special thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Deanda for sharing their wealth of knowledge to our 7th graders.
6th grade families: Thank you for your support for our 6th grade dance. Please bring the rest of the donations in by Friday October 23rd so we know if we need to still purchase additional items.
We are about to kick off our annual sock drive to support cancer patients that coincides with the 6th grade PBL cancer unit. We would love the support of the entire campus. More information to follow but start searching for the deals on brand new warm fuzzy socks.

Happy Friday!
Even with a shortened week, time certainly flew by. Our students jumped right back into their routines without missing a beat, making great progress in our day-to-day lessons.
We have a quiet couple of weeks ahead with no major events on the schedule, giving us a wonderful opportunity to dive deep into our current units and stay focused on our learning goals.
Enjoy the weekend!

Digital Citizenship Week 2026
October 19–23 is Digital Citizenship Week! This week, we’re reinforcing with students how to be safe, smart, and kind online. Parents can help by starting conversations at home about using social media responsibly, thinking before posting, and treating others online with the same respect they show in person. Together, we can help our students become thoughtful digital citizens.
Our next round of classroom guidance visits will be on Personal Health & Safety. The lessons presented will be the district required “Vape Free NISD” lessons for all grade levels. All of our Hawks will learn the facts regarding the dangers of vaping and we will focus on healthy life choices. Specifically by grade level we will introduce the following:
6th grade students
will learn how their brain is undergoing significant development, and that the introduction of nicotine can have serious, lasting consequences.
7th grade students
8th grade students
will understand the calculated and deceptive nature of the tobacco and e-cigarette industry's marketing and learn how to build strong refusal skills.
We are excited to partner with you to support your student's success throughout the year. Please reach out to us with any student needs/concerns- we are here to support our Hobby Hawks!

🎗️ Why Red Ribbon Week Matters
Red Ribbon Week began in 1985 in memory of DEA Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, who lost his life while working to protect the community from drug trafficking. Today, millions of people wear red ribbons to honor his sacrifice and promote a drug-free lifestyle.
At Hobby Middle School, we encourage every student to make healthy, responsible choices and remember that their dreams and goals are worth protecting.
❤️ Let's show our Hobby Hawk pride, wear our red, and celebrate a healthy, drug-free future!
We look forward to seeing everyone participate in this exciting week!
Important Athletic Information
If your child is interested in trying out for a sport this year, and is enrolled in 7th or 8th grade athletics, there is mandatory paperwork that must be completed before they can be eligible to participate.
An athlete cannot try out for a sport before completing ALL UIL paperwork found on the parent portal. (link below)
STUDENTS NEW TO ATHLETICS:
All incoming students that did not have a medical physical last year MUST complete a medical physical and give a copy to the head coach on campus. The physical form can be printed from the parent portal, or from the links provided at the bottom of this information sheet. The medical history form must be completed online. Print the completed medical history and the physical form and take both of those papers with you to the doctor when you get your physical. Make a copy of the medical physical and turn it into the head coach. You do not need to turn in medical history, but must complete it online.

Dress Code: Dress for Success!
Dress Code: Dress for Success School staff recognizes that parents bear the primary responsibility for setting standards for their children’s dress and grooming. However, because of health and safety factors, the influence of dress and grooming on students’ attitude and behavior, and because of the need to prevent disruptive influences and preserve the academic environment of the school, student dress and grooming are appropriate concerns of teachers and administrators. The district’s dress code is implemented (Section D); therefore, students will be expected to follow the guidelines set forth by the district. Dress code standards are extended to extra-curricular activities held on the campus. In an effort to promote a safe and positive school environment which is conducive to learning, students should wear appropriate clothing that will not cause disruptions in learning or safety. Inappropriate, indecent, suggestive or distracting clothing will not be allowed. *Final determination of acceptable dress code and grooming rests with the Principal or his/her designees.
Please Note
Part of supporting our students’ academic and social growth involves maintaining a disruption-free learning space. With that in mind, we want to gently remind our community about our campus dress code expectations—specifically regarding student hairstyles.
Starting this term, we will be fully aligning our campus practices with our NISD dress code policy:
Expectation: Hair must be neat, clean, and kept in a way that does not cause a distraction to the teaching and learning environment.
