Tombaugh Elementary Newsletter: December 2024
A Word from your Principals:
Dear Tombaugh Families:
As the holiday season approaches, I want to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful experiences we’ve shared so far this year and express my heartfelt gratitude to you all. The joy and enthusiasm your children bring to school each day are truly the heartbeat of our Tombaugh community.
This season reminds us of the importance of togetherness, gratitude, and giving. Watching your children learn, grow, and thrive is a gift to all of us who work at Tombaugh. From the excitement of our upcoming Santa Visit to the daily triumphs in classrooms, it has been a privilege to witness their growth and accomplishments.
Your partnership as parents plays a crucial role in creating the positive, nurturing environment that makes Tombaugh such a special place. Thank you for your continued support and for entrusting us with the privilege of educating and inspiring your children.
On behalf of the entire Tombaugh staff, I wish you a joyful holiday season and a happy, healthy New Year. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school in January for more learning and growth in the year ahead!
Happy Holidays -
Lisa Wilson - Principal / lmanes@lcps.net

Middle of the Year Testing
As we wrap up our 1st Semester of the 24-25 School Year, it is time to begin our Middle of the Year Testing season. It is so important for your child to be at school everyday and on time to help us meet District and State testing deadlines. Please communicate with your child's teacher if you anticipate your child missing any school so we can adequately prepare. Thank you!
Attendance Matters
Attendance for Success
Across the country, more than 8 million students are missing so many days of school that they are academically at risk. Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences and suspensions, can translate into third-graders unable to master reading, sixth-graders failing subjects and ninth-graders dropping out of high school.
Student Handbook Spotlight
Our Student Handbook has been provided to all students. Complete Student Handbook can be found below. We will highlight an area of focus each month on our Parent Newsletter.
