We have now finished MAP testing, so watch for MAP reports in your child's backpack next Thursday.

No school on Friday, September 25
All CCSD 89 schools will also be closed Friday, September 25 for a teacher collaboration day. The district's administrative offices will be open. School will resume Monday, September 28 with a regular schedule for all students.
Celebrate OAKtober
The Westfield Garden Club is collecting acorns the entire month of September. If your family has access to acorns, please help us celebrate by collecting and donating them to Westfield School. The viable acorns will be used to grow and care for new oak trees. Please be sure to only provide acorns from trees that your family owns.
Oaks represent strength and stature and are historically significant to both the Chicago region and Illinois, evident in the fact that the white oak is the Illinois state tree. Majestic oaks create a sense of awe and wonder. These trees work for us by cleaning our air and water, reducing ambient air temperature, and decreasing our use of energy. But oaks need our help: around the world, more than one-third of all oak species are threatened with extinction.
OAKtober is a time to celebrate oaks and everything that they do for people, as well as to promote the planting and care of these important trees. Every individual, organization, community, park district, forest preserve, and public or private landowner or manager can play an important role in celebrating oaks and oak ecosystems across Illinois throughout the month of October. Please bring acorns in a bag to Mr. Mennecke in the LMC. If you have any questions, please email Mr. Mennecke at kmennecke@ccsd89.org.
Fall conference sign-ups open next Friday, September 25

Resources for helping your child through difficult times
Tragedy can affect a nation or a single family. Some crises happen suddenly while others build over time. Each situation can be difficult for children to understand and challenging for families to navigate. Our school has a counselor, social worker, and psychologist available to help students and families with strategies for transparent, age-appropriate conversations. The district has also posted additional resources at www.ccsd89.org/crisis
Students, families can report crises and threats through Safe2Help
Students and families can confidentially call, email, or text the Safe2Help tip line to report bullying, threats, or classmates in crisis. Students or families can call (844) 4-SAFE-IL, (which is 844-472-3345); text SAFE2 (which is 72332); email Help@Safe2HelpIL.com; or submit tips through the online form. Safe2Help submissions are monitored every hour of every day. More info: https://bit.ly/3BPxObO
