Dear LES Parents and Families,

Welcome to the month of October! We realize that there is a lot of communication sent to our families, so I would like to open up more space to share about events and photos from these events. After all, who has time to read lengthy messages. We are all busy parents (myself included). Therefore my messages will be brief so you can read about all the good news we have to share.

As always, thank you for your continued support of our students and staff. We appreciate the connections we have with you.

Sincerely,
Your Proud Principal
Candace Haynes

Hello LES family! The school year is in full effect and by now students have gotten more adjusted to school and home routines. The excitement around starting school, seeing friends, and meeting their new teacher has died down and it’s easy for students to start to feel tired of the routine and not want to be at school. When students feel excited and motivated to come to school, they are more likely to thrive academically and socially. Parents and families play a huge role in this! A few simple things like: asking your child about their day, celebrating their successes, and reminding them how important being at school is can make a BIG difference.

Consistent attendance helps children build strong friendships, stay on track academically, and develop important life skills like responsibility and perseverance. When we work together, we create an environment where students feel supported, valued, and eager to learn. Your encouragement makes all the difference in helping your child see school not just as something they have to do, but as a place they want to be.

Here are some ways you can help motivate your child to be excited about school:

  • Create a positive morning routine. A calm and consistent start to the day helps students feel ready to learn.

  • Celebrate effort and progress. Acknowledge challenges they’ve had to overcome.

  • Talk about the day. Ask about highlights, friendships, or something new they learned.

  • Set attendance goals. Help your child see the importance of being present by tracking their days at school and celebrating milestones.

  • Connect school to their future. Remind them that each day they learn new things helps them to build their knowledge and confidence for their future selves.

-Your counselors,

Ms. Younger (k-2) & Mrs. Williams (3-5)

🏀PE Club: Black Knights In Action!! 🏀 🏀PE Club: Black Knights In Action!! 🏀

Our Little Black Knights are starting the year off with a bang! We have some amazing athletes at LES this year, and it shows! These boys and girls have been learning more about team sports and how to be a good teammate on and off the field. So far, we have been playing basketball tournaments, volleyball games, and beginning soccer! We are taking the skills we have learned in PE Specials and putting them into practice playing “tournament style” games. Our goal is for students to be well-rounded during their time here at LES. It is the goal for our PE Clubbers to be leaders in their classrooms, as well as in the gym.

As we move forward, here are our goals for PE Club this year and things we are looking forward to accomplishing:

Community service and school-wide events:

  • Field day! - with creative relay races, obstacle courses, and team challenges.

  • Kids Heart Challenge Fundraiser - coming up in February

  • "Just Dance-a-thons" for students.

  • Equipment or school grounds clean-up activities.

Stay connected to keep up with all the activities going on in PE Club this year!

🥰 The Kindness Squad-Spreading Kindness Wherever We Go 🌎 🥰 The Kindness Squad-Spreading Kindness Wherever We Go 🌎

The Kindness Squad is a school club that meets together to create acts of kindness for others. We come up with ideas of how we can spread kindness in our community and beyond and do those acts of kindness together to make the world a little brighter!

Projects have included:

  • Pigeon Sharing- Students read the book, The Pigeon Finds a Hotdog. In the book, the Pigeon learns to share with his friend Duckling. We created directed drawings of the Pigeon and included messages encouraging students to share with classmates. These pictures were displayed in the school on the hallway leading to the cafeteria.

  • Welcome Bags- Squad members read a book called Evelyn Del Rey is Moving Away. We discussed how difficult it can be to move to a new school and created welcome bags for students who enroll at LES. Welcome bags are given to students on their first day at LES.

  • Hispanic Heritage Month- Students read Pepe’s Parade and create a banner to celebrate our Hispanic students and staff.

  • Project Sidewalk- Students read the book What Matters about how a task as “small” as picking up a piece of trash can matter to another living thing. Students then picked up trash at our entrances (car rider and bus lane) and wrote kind messages on the sidewalk at the entrances to the school.

Lookout for more kindness to be sprinkled around LES this semester.

🎨 Art Club Highlights – A Season of Creativity! 🎨 Art Club Highlights – A Season of Creativity!

Dear Families,

Art Club has been full of exciting projects and creative exploration! Here’s what our talented students have been working on so far:

  • Painted Terracotta Pots: We began the season by painting small terracotta pots, introducing students to color mixing and surface design.

  • Clay Tic-Tac-Toe Boards: Using air-dry clay, students sculpted their own Tic-Tac-Toe games, combining artistic expression with playful functionality.

  • Self-Portrait Canvases: Our current project focuses on self-portraits. Each student received a printed photo of themselves and graphite transfer paper to trace their image onto canvas. This technique helps students understand how to draw what they see, rather than what they think they see.

Through these activities, students are developing essential visual skills—learning to observe and interpret shapes, lines, and colors with greater accuracy. My goal is to help them build confidence in their ability to see the world through an artist’s lens.

Thank you for your continued support and encouragement!

Warm regards,
Ms. Waight
Art Teacher

The LES Robotics team, aka The Black Knight Bots, is busy preparing for competition in December. So far we have begun to dig into our Innovative Project. Based on the Unearthed theme, we researched who archaeologists are, what they do, and how we can help them with our designs. Once we narrow down a project idea we will create a prototype. The team has also begun to analyze and create their robot mission strategy. For students on the team, there is a wide variety of resources loaded in our google classroom for the competition. Students can keep working in between meetings. Since we will not meet next week due to Fall Break, team members can keep researching robot mission solutions and draw or create a multi-tool prototype. Here is a picture of the Black Knight Bots around their robot mission table. (As you can tell, we have a lot of fun!)

LES Dance Club Update LES Dance Club Update

The LES Dance Club has been working hard this fall, and we’re excited to share a recent highlight! Our 4th and 5th grade dancers learned La Raspa, a traditional Mexican folk dance, with support from our high school Dance Conservatory mentors.

They had the opportunity to perform La Raspa at the Hispanic Heritage Month Tailgate at the high school, and they did a fantastic job. Their energy and effort really showed, and it was a great way to celebrate culture and community.

We’re proud of their progress and looking forward to what’s next!

We’ve discussed germs using UV lighting after practicing hand washing skills, played games for muscle memory, we learned basic health tips, and how to respond when you see someone choking. Our Cluster Nurse has even joined us with fun activities. Parents are invited to join us on 10/06 7:20 for more fun.

Lunch Visitors! Lunch Visitors!

Our students have become acclimated to being in school and following our cafeteria expectations. Due to limited space for visitors in our cafeteria, we are welcoming lunch visitors with photo ID on a rotating schedule by the student's last name.

Monday - A&B and U-Z

Tuesday - C-G

Wednesday - H-M

Thursday - N-T

Any deviation from the above assigned schedule must be approved by the grade level Assistant Principal at least 24 hours in advance when possible. Parents can call (770-963-1813) or email your grade level Assistant Principal with special circumstances.

At the end of lunch, parents should say goodbye to their children and proceed to the front desk for check-out. It is a violation of our school policy to accompany your child to the playground, classroom, or move around the building visiting other children in their classrooms.

The parent table is located in the center of the cafeteria. Due to limited seating, please refrain from sitting at your student’s class table. Only your student may accompany you at the parent table.

Fast food from outside vendors such as McDonalds, soda, and glass containers are not allowed in the lunchroom.

Store bought treats brought in for the class should be pre-arranged with your child’s teacher and may only be shared with your child’s class. No homemade items are allowed.

Ice cream is sold for $1. This may also be purchased as a class treat.

Please be aware of allergy restrictions in your child’s class when selecting treats. Please do not bring anything containing any type of nuts.

Lawrenceville ES will not supply or allow knives into the school building. Please pre-cut items or provide single-serve items.

Balloons, party favors, etc., are not permitted in the cafeteria.

Thank you very much for your help in supporting these expectations.

How does your child get home? How does your child get home?

Please ensure that you are complying with our important safety policy as stated in our Parent Handbook. It is our goal that there are no transportation mistakes. For this reason, it is important that students have only ONE mode of transportation and the tag on the backpack should reflect this. Please limit transportation changes to emergencies only. By definition of the word emergency, these do not happen often. Thank you so much for your support as we work to maintain consistency in our procedures. The complete handbook is attached below should you ever need it.

Changes in Student Transportation - IMPORTANT

Transportation changes are not permissible without prior written notice from a parent/guardian. Only those listed as legal parent(s)/guardian(s) can make transportation changes. Please send a handwritten/signed note with your child if a transportation change is needed. Call the front office (770-963-1813) to verify that the note was received. To protect the safety and security of all students, transportation changes will not be accepted over the telephone, via email, fax, or text. We need to verify the identity of the individual making the request. Should an extreme emergency arise, the parent/legal guardian will need to come to the front office and speak with an administrator with their identification. ParentSquare direct messages will be accepted in the event of an emergency. Emergency changes will be dealt with on a case by case basis. Please refrain from making regular transportation changes. It is confusing for staff and students. Students should have one form of daily transportation.

Student Dress Code Student Dress Code

  • For safety reasons, it is very important that students wear tennis shoes to school. Even when not in PE, students are playing outside daily. Our goal is to avoid accidents, including trips and falls in the hallway. Please save the crocs, yeezys, slides, sandals, and similar shoes for wearing outside of school.
  • Head coverings such as hats, caps, hoodies, satin night caps, scarves, bandanas, etc. should not be worn to school.

Student Drop off Student Drop off

Student drop off should take place in the rear of the school from 8:20-8:50. Please ensure your child is at school on time. Breakfast, Joyful Learning, Morning Meeting, and Morning Announcements all take place prior to 9:00 am and are immediately followed by Knight Time, which consists of academic intervention schoolwide. Please ensure our students have the best start to their day by being on time. All students within the LES attendance zone have the option of riding the bus so that they are on time to school.

Student Check Out Student Check Out

We ask that you only check out students for in situations that are urgent. Please do not circumvent the regular dismissal process by checking out students on a daily or regular basis. Early checkouts disrupt classroom instruction. All students within the LES attendance zone have the option of riding the bus. If you are unable to retrieve your child from the car line, please allow your child to ride the bus.

Is your child on permissive transfer? Is your child on permissive transfer?

We are pleased to welcome students to LES on a permissive transfer. This opportunity is extended with the understanding that strong attendance, positive behavior, and academic success are essential priorities. While we strive to support all students, please be aware that permissive transfers are contingent upon maintaining these standards. We kindly ask that you ensure your child arrives at school on time and is picked up promptly each day. Please note: Failure to maintain good attendance, behavior, and academic performance may result in the revocation of the permissive transfer at the end of the first quarter. We appreciate your partnership in helping your child succeed. Your support in reinforcing these expectations at home is invaluable.

About Us

Lawrenceville Elementary is very proud to be a PBIS school. PBIS focuses on positive behaviors, teaching and reteaching school and classroom expectations and rewarding students with incentives. Our school expectations are taught and referred to daily so all students can be equipped to have a successful day at Lawrenceville Elementary.

Our Awesome Incentives:

  • Lead Bucks: Buy rewards and admission to events throughout the school year.
  • BOB (Best on Bus): These students have a chance to earn a Pizza lunch with the A-Team.
  • PBIS Store: Students can use their LEAD bucks to buy desired items.
  • PBIS Celebrations: Fun school-wide events to celebrate students for awesome behavior!

You can help!

We encourage all parents to talk with your child about the school motto and what it means to them. Ask them if they earned any Lead Bucks this week. Ask them about some of the PBIS Celebrations and how to earn it.
