Principal's Notes

On Friday, our second graders enjoyed an exciting enrichment program with the Easton Children’s Museum centered on fossils and dinosaurs. Students stepped into the role of paleontologists, carefully excavating “fossils” and studying their discoveries just like real scientists. After digging and examining their finds, they worked to identify which type of dinosaur their fossil came from using observation and reasoning skills. It was a hands-on, highly engaging experience that brought science to life and sparked lots of curiosity and conversation back in the classroom.

Martinson Winter Food Drive

Help us make a difference this February. Our second grade is proud to host a food drive to support local families in need, and we invite our entire community of Martinson to take part. Together, we can show the power of kindness and generosity by filling our collection bins and supporting our neighbors. Second graders will be collecting food items to donate to the Marshfield Food Pantry starting Monday, February 9 through Friday, February 13 . Some suggested items are peanut butter, jelly, apple sauce, macaroni & cheese, coffee, soup, broth and cake or cookie mixes. Please send any of these items in with your child so that items can be collected each day. Second grade will sort, count, and box up the items to deliver to the food pantry. We appreciate any and all donations. Thank you for helping us turn compassion into action. Let’s make a difference and help out the Marshfield Food Pantry!

Nurse's Notes

Healthy Winter Tips from Your School Nurse! It’s important to take extra care to stay healthy and prevent the spread of germs during the colder months.

If your child continues to appear fatigued, pale, lacks appetite, struggles with solid foods, or just doesn’t seem like themselves, PLEASE KEEP THEM HOME from school. Some viral illnesses may require more time for full recovery before your child is ready to return. Sending your child to school to “see if they improve” risks exposing other students and staff to contagious illnesses. This can spread the illness to classmates, their siblings, and family members.

Preventing the Spread of Germs This Winter

  • Wash hands frequently: Use soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after coughing, sneezing, or touching shared surfaces.

  • Use hand sanitizer: If soap and water aren’t available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

  • Cover coughs and sneezes: Always cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue, then throw the tissue away and wash your hands.

  • Avoid touching your face: Try to keep hands away from your eyes, nose, and mouth to prevent germs from entering your body.

  • Stay home when sick: Keep children home if they show signs of illness, such as fever, cough, or sore throat, until they are symptom-free for 24 hours.

  • Disinfect frequently touched surfaces: Clean doorknobs, light switches, and other commonly used surfaces regularly to reduce germs.

  • Avoid close contact: Limit close contact with people who are sick.

Helpful Tips for School Success

  • Pack a healthy snack every day.
Great options include fruits and vegetables (apples, oranges, carrots, cucumbers), whole-grain snacks (granola bars, crackers), and protein-rich choices like cheese sticks or yogurt to help students stay energized and focused.

  • Send a water bottle to school daily.
Students have access to water bottle filling stations and can refill throughout the day.

  • Dress for the weather.
As colder temperatures arrive, please have students wear layers and appropriate cold-weather gear for outdoor play. Even if the building feels warm, proper clothing is needed to stay safe and comfortable outside.

The Ram’s Closet – Student Support Resource

Ram’s Closet was launched over the summer and is located in the health clinic. This space provides access to essential items such as clothing, hygiene products, non-perishable snacks, water bottles, and other basic supplies. As student needs continue, we are seeking additional donations to help keep The Ram’s Closet stocked. If you’d like to support this, please consider donating through our Amazon Wish List

When to Keep Your Child Home:

  • When your child has a communicable disease such as strep throat or conjunctivitis that has not been treated for at least 24 hours with antibiotic medication

  • When your child has had a fever of 100 degrees or greater within the past 24 hours without fever- reducing medication

  • When your child has been vomiting or has had diarrhea within the past 24 hours

Illnesses: Elementary aged children can easily spread and pick up germs and viruses. If your child has developed symptoms or has been sent home from school with symptoms that are of a concern, such as Flu, Strep Throat or Hand Foot and Mouth aka HFM or Coxsackie virus--- which are all communicable illnesses -please contact your Pediatrician for advice and /or evaluation before returning to school.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child's health, or if you're unsure whether they should attend school, please don't hesitate to contact me.
