A Note from the Principal

Welcome March! I'm hopeful that the sun will keep shining and all the snow is behind us.

There are several things going on this month that we would like for you to know about, so please read this newsletter update for all the details! We look forward to the Spring months that lie ahead! Remember, that student attendance is still important. We have so much to accomplish in the remaining three months of school, and we want all of our students to be a part of it! Thank you so much for your continued support of our students and staff.

Hope you have a wonderful Spring Break!

Mrs. Westlund

Library News

Last month we had a great time exploring more of our Goldfinch books, great winter reads, Valentine’s Day and more! In March we will finish up our Goldfinch books and will vote on a school wide winner. Lakeview votes will be combined with votes from students all over Iowa and a state winner will be announced next month!

Third graders spent the past two months reading books on being responsible online and how using our devices too much or without adult supervision can have negative consequences. Our youngest learners rely on the adults present in their life to provide a safe and healthy environment for them to learn and grow. Today that includes monitoring how much, when and what they are playing and viewing online. Here is a handy tool to start the conversation and come up with a plan for your home!

Check out these tips from CommonSenseMedia:

1.Create screen free times and zones

2. Turn on parental controls

3.Establish clear family rules

4.Watch and play together

5.Help identify healthy media choices

Did you know you can set up supervised accounts, set up time limits, turn off autoplay, and set content limits for your child on YouTube and other Google apps? Here is a handy guide to get you started.

Lakeview Office Update

We are excited to announce that the Lakeview Office will now remain locked at all times. In order to access the office now you will need to ring the doorbell marked to the right of the office door and wait to be buzzed in by a secretary. Thank you for your patience as we work through this new system.

Kindergarten Sign-Up

If you are interested in your child attending kindergarten for the 2025-2026 school year please fill out the following form:https://forms.gle/VJERo2hb46SzMQgW7

Please also note April 24, 2025 is the date for Kindergarten Round-Up!

On March 26th you will receive the pre-enrollment link (if your child does not already attend preschool at Lakeview) as well as the sign up link for Kindergarten Round-Up times.

If you need childcare before or after the school day hours, there is the option of enrolling in BASP (Before and After School Program). There is a separate fee schedule for this program, with varying options depending on the number of days and hours in attendance. This program fills up quickly! To receive this information and/or to enroll in the BASP program, please contact Amber Feaker, BASP director, at 624-3401 x1277.

If you have any questions regarding the sign-up process or kindergarten in general, please feel free to call the Lakeview Elementary school office, 319-624-3401. We look forward to another exceptional school year at Lakeview!

3rd grade ISASP Testing

Lakeview has identified April 2-9 as our ISASP testing dates. Students will complete these tests online. Teachers will be preparing for these tests by taking a few short practice tests to help students familiarize themselves with the testing platform and navigation features. Please talk to your child about the importance of a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast! It's the little things that make a big difference!

Summer Reading Program

If your child qualified for the Summer Reading Program and you received a letter home please RETURN that ASAP so we can get schedules and teachers set!

Thank you!

Please reach out to Sam Brimeyer if you have any questions: sbrimeyer@solon.k12.ia.us
