Webster Weekly

WebsterWeeklyMay 10, 2024

WEbster Nation,

Thanks for another amazing week here on campus! We are so grateful to all of you who continue to go above and beyond to make this such an engaging environment for our kids. The list feels endless. I see the smiling faces of parents and staff each day who go out of their way for our kids. All of you...our village...are truly special humans and I am grateful and humbled by your efforts.

Keep in mind we have so many good things still on the agenda before it's all said and done. I hope your kids are rocking and rolling with their Caine's Arcade project. If week 1 was a little rough, just shake it off...you've still got 3 weeks to go. Encourage them to continue to wonder and imagine what "could" be. Read below for some Week 1-2 tips.

Campus will be pretty quiet next week as the 5th graders, Mrs. London, Ms. Johnson, and myself will be in Yosemite all week. Also missing will be Mr. K, Mrs. Morris, and our 4th graders who venture off to Astrocamp from Weds - Fri. A huge THANK YOU to all our parent chaperones. You make the trip extra special and we are grateful for support. Sadly, this means there will be no newsletter next Friday, May 17. I promise to send pictures from both trips the following Friday.

Enjoy this week's newsletter and be good to each other out there.

With gratitude,

- Tedd

Ms. Neci is BAAAAACK!! The music is bumpin' again in the kitchen. The smiles, the energy, ALL OF IT! We missed you a ton, lady. Welcome back.

LOSING LOCKWOOD

I find myself writing far too many of these incredibly sad notes lately. This one really hurts. Let me first say that we are truly blessed here at Webster. We somehow managed to land a school full of outstanding educators. With that kind of daily dynamic, one can easily forget how hard the great ones are to come by. Callie Lockwood is one of the greats. In only the dawn of what I hope to be a long career of impacting the lives of children and families, she is a truly special educator and an even more wonderful human being. It is with gut-wrenching sadness that I have to inform the community that Ms. Lockwood will be moving on from Webster at the end of this year. Just so you know, NO ONE wants this, no one...not Callie and certainly none of us. In situations like these, we find ourselves at the mercy of low enrollment and financial bottom lines. We aren't giving up hope (there is still an outside chance we will be able to keep her here...I will update you as I learn more), but for now we must say goodbye and take a moment to give her our love and gratitude.

Dear Callie,

We somehow lucked out and found you in the 11th hour of September 2022. Already several weeks into the school year, you filled a tough split-grade position which came with some heavy strings attached. Like an absolute pro, you steadied the ship, loved on those kids, eased the parent concerns, and led that class through an unforgettable year. You filled each day with your contagious energy, you dedicated yourself to an engaging style of teaching and learning, you inspired curiosity and wonder, and rained down a ton of love on your kiddos each day. You immediately became a part of the Webster family, forging friendships throughout the staff and endearing yourself to students and families. Earlier this year, you dazzled us with DUCKS...spreading a sense of fun and wonder across campus...just because that's who you are. Within two short years, you have become a Webster staple. Your leaving is a huge loss to this entire community. We are so grateful for your laughter, your love, and your dedication to students and families.

Please never forget that, while our hearts are broken, we are beyond thankful to have had the chance to spend this time with you and be warmed by your immense light. We love you a ton!

WEEK 1 IS IN THE BOOKS

How's it going out there?? We are super excited as we hear from students about what they're imagining and designing. The enthusiasm is contagious. I sent these last week, but wanted to include the 4-WEEK suggested schedule for keeping kids on track throughout this project. If they're going too fast, slow them down a bit and ask some questions, encourage iteration. If they're nowhere near the beginning, take a look and see if you can help them move forward. Just remember to let them solve the problems. Let them deal with the challenge and the struggle. There's great learning in there. Don't forget we're here if you need our support. Looking forward to an amazing event on May 31.

SOME LOVE FOR OUR TEAM

We really felt the love this week as the amazing Vicky Farrell, funded by our equally incredible PTA, showered the staff with treats and treasures for five straight days.

On Monday, we woke up to bagels & coffee and all kinds of healthy snacks in the staff lounge. Staff also received some lovely "Thank You - You're Awesome" candles. On Tuesday, each student grabbed a flower stem on the way into school and made a beautiful classroom bouquet for each teacher, who walked in to find vases in their boxes. We also had a massage therapist onsite from 11- 3, providing 15-min chair massages to teachers/staff. Just when you thought there couldn't be more, there was a fruit cart out front during lunch making custom fruit bowls. Wednesday saw the massage therapist on campus for another day and brand new yoga mats for everyone in the lounge. With the mats came a free 1-year subscription to the Down Dog Yoga App. Thursday arrived with a beautifully catered luncheon from Maria's Italian Kitchen in the library. Staff also received an adult coloring book and markers to promote downtime/relaxation....something we most definitely need. Rounding it all out on Friday was a refreshment cart filled with delicious breakfast treats that visited all the classrooms during the morning. The team also received warm outdoor blankets to promote some summer fun.

THE FOURTH EDITION IS HERE

The wait is over! You know you've been sitting on the edge of your seat in anticipation of what Mrs. Lockwood's incredible 2nd graders were gonna create. Well, sit back and enjoy this brand new edition of Webster's favorite newsletter, The Barnacles Chronicles. We are all so proud of you guys. Great work!

THE WEBSTER PROM

What a night it was! The Webster community was in full glow-mode last Friday as we wrapped up an amazing Party Book season with a full-on family dance party here on campus. Parents and kids showed off their prom best outfits and stirred it up on the dance floor in white and fluorescent outfits. DJ Joel and friends helped to liven up the night with great music, light shows, and super fun games. Congrats to Webster's new Royal Family, the Mlodziks. Represent the crown well into 2025. Let's all give a collective shout out to Lauren Franks (Ifft) for her amazing efforts to bring together so many fantastic Party Book community events. You rock!!! And, as always, these things to come together without the support of tons of volunteers. Thank you to all who made this such a special night.

TACOS and TEQUILA

What a way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo while building community with some fabulous Webster families. Sunday was absolutely delightful. We were treated to a brilliant group of youth Mariachis.

The weather was gorgeous as we learned a ton about the agave-producing regions of Mexico and dined on delicious, handmade tacos. Another thank you to Lauren Franks (Ifft) for organizing a year of Party Book events and to the Mosapor family for welcoming us into their beautiful home for the afternoon. Such a treat to be able to spend the day with Pearl and Gigi and the gang!

- Pledge forms are coming home for you to sign with your child(ren)

- Return them to school by next week, Wednesday, March 20th.
