Snapshots from the District: This Month’s Moments
Proviso Township D209’s Inaugural Dual Degree Cohort at Triton College
Proviso Township High School District 209’s inaugural Dual Degree Program cohort is making history at Triton College. For the first time since the district’s founding in 1910, students are attending college full-time while completing high school. Through this program, they aim to earn their associate’s degree in arts or science alongside their high school diploma. "I saw this as an opportunity to get closer to my future goals," said Aithen Arreguin, a junior at Proviso Math and Science Academy. "Not only am I helping myself, but I also hope to inspire my sister and cousins to join the program and have the same opportunity I did."
These trailblazing students—including Kennedie Rone, Payton Grant-Duda, Jaylah Gines, Janely Padilla, Nayeli Castro, Leilani Martinez, and Jarrell David—are navigating the challenges of higher education with resilience. Dr. Alexander Brandon, District Director of Career and Technical Education and Early College, praised their determination. “Their journey is not just about earning credits,” he said. “It’s about personal growth, independence, and the development of critical skills that will serve them for a lifetime.”
Transitioning from high school to full-time college is no small feat, but these scholars are excelling academically, building support networks, and embracing this opportunity. “I was scared at first, but it’s all about pushing yourself to new heights,” said Jaylah Gines. Their success is a testament to the vision of the district, the dedication of families and educators, and the pioneering spirit of these students. To our Dual Degree Trailblazers—keep pushing forward. You are setting a new standard and leaving a legacy for future generations.
