News from our Librarian
Dear families,
It is that time of year. May 29th is the last day for our students to check out books in our library! Let’s make sure our library continues to be filled with amazing books for our students.
If a book is lost, remind your student not to panic and that honesty is always the best policy. Most books are not lost, simply misplaced. Check your car, backpack, and places you frequently visit.
If the book is lost or damaged beyond repair, you have options:
- Replace the book with a new copy of the same title. (Books can be purchased at Amazon, your favorite bookstore, etc.) Bring the book to Mrs. French and I’ll barcode it and readd it to our collection.
- Pay for the book through our district’s online payment system. Mrs. French will then replace the book with those funds.

Go to our school website.
Click the library tab.
“Pay Library Fine”
- 3. Ask for a district waiver form for financial hardship or other reason. These are available in the office or from Mrs. French. Please reach out with any questions.
Thank you for returning our books and sharing the book joy!
Mrs. French
Garfield Elementary Multi-Cultural Event
5th Grade Celebration
SUN Bucks, also known as Summer EBT, is a program that provides a one-time $120 benefit per year to help families buy groceries for their school-aged children when meals aren't available at school during the summer months. Nearly 550,000 Washington children received SUN Bucks over the summer of 2025.
Your child will be automatically enrolled for Sun Bucks if at any point in the 2025-2026 school year, either:
Your child was enrolled at a school that offers the National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program AND individually approved for free or reduced-price meals at a school.
Your child was age 8-18 and a member of a household that receives benefits from TANF or SNAP.
If you believe you may be eligible for benefits, there is still time to enroll. Families may apply for Sun Bucks by filling out a Free & Reduced Meal application (online or at their child’s school), or by visiting the SUN Bucks website.
Sign up for text alerts to be notified of SUN Bucks updates, benefit details, important reminders and answers to questions. For questions about the SUN Bucks program or your benefits, please call the SUN Bucks Contact Center at 833-543-3230 (TTY: 800-833-6348) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday (except observed holidays).

Blended Learning in Everett Public Schools
Since the passage of the 2016 Technology Levy, Everett Public Schools has implemented a 1:1 device program to provide students with equitable access to technology that supports personalized learning, collaboration, creativity, and digital literacy development.
The district’s approach emphasizes blended learning, where technology is used intentionally as one of many instructional tools to enhance learning. The integrated technology plan emphasizes that an increase in screen time does not equate to an increase in learning time. Teachers remain central to instruction through direct teaching, discussion, hands-on activities, and small-group support, with technology integrated when it adds value to student learning.
The Learning and Information Technology Services Department continues to monitor technology use and maintain updated safety and security tools to support responsible, developmentally appropriate use for students.
At the April 30, 2026, Technology Advisory Council meeting, members discussed community concerns regarding screen time and identified several areas of focus moving forward, including:
- Importance for teachers to communicate the purpose and value of instructional technology when used in the classroom.
- Reinforcing balanced, purposeful technology integration in classrooms.
- Supporting staff with professional learning on effective instructional practices and digital tools.
- Highlighting current practices that already support balanced screen use, including P–5 students not taking devices home
- Promoting use of parent at-home monitoring tools provided by the district.
Additional information is available in the FAQ Blended Learning document. This is also posted on the Technology web page.
