Message from the Reading Coach

Hello, parents! If your child has a Student Reading Improvement Plan (SRIP), you should have received an update by November 3rd on the progress your student is making towards their reading goal. Teachers are diligently working with your student to achieve the goals set for them. If you have any questions about the SRIP goals, progress your student has made, or ways you can help at home, please reach out to your child's teacher.

A Message From Our Math Coach

I am Mrs. Jessica Zavala and will be serving as the Providence Elementary School's Math Instructional Coach for the 2023-2024 school year. This is my 14th year in education. I am excited to work with your students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade, partnering with AMSTI and the Office of Mathematics Improvement for the ALSDE. So far, I have had fun introducing new math centers, activities, and number sense routines into the classrooms! I am also looking to provide parents with opportunities for math workshops throughout the year. We have already hosted our first math take-home games during the International Festival. Thank you to those of you who stopped by and picked up a game! We will have another math workshop during the spring!

Counselors Corner

The character word for the month of December is:

Generosity: “When you are blessed financially, don’t raise your standard of living. Raise your standard of giving”.

Generosity is often associated with someone giving plentiful, as in giving to charity. Giving is also thought of in terms of how much money or how many gifts someone gives that makes them generous. The meaning of “Generosity” gets lost when we focus on money or material things.

Generosity of your time, support or understanding is also very important and can go a long way in helping someone, it can build their confidence or make them feel important and loved. This kind of generosity will last a lot longer than anything you can buy at a store or money you give. So be generous with your time, love and compassion this holiday season and always. It doesn’t cost anything to share a smile or offer a kind word to someone, and it could make a world of difference in their life.

Remember, when the milk is splattered all over the floor, and those little eyes are looking at you for your reaction, remember what really matters. It takes five minutes to clean up splattered milk. It takes much longer to clean up a broken spirit. Rebecca Eanes

Message from the Nurse

If your child has a health condition that the school nurse should be specifically aware of and/or needs medication to be kept in the school clinic (either daily during school hours, as needed, or emergency medications), please contact Nurse Cathy at 256-428-7125 to set up a time to develop a health plan and drop-off medications. No student should be carrying medications with them unless a plan is in place with the nurse.
