Dear Mustang Families,

It is hard to believe that it is already May! As we move closer to the end of the school year, there are many important events, activities, and reminders coming up. Additionally, supporting middle school students can sometimes feel challenging, and we want to make sure families have helpful tools available. Please take a moment to explore these parent resources which includes tips and strategies for parenting and supporting middle school students both academically and socially.

Beginning next week, students will begin participating in CAASPP state testing. Please review the testing schedule below carefully so your family is aware of testing dates and times. During testing, we will utilize a block schedule to provide students with the time and support needed to be successful.

Attendance during testing is extremely important. We ask that students:

  • Arrive to school on time
  • Get a good night’s sleep
  • Eat breakfast each morning

To minimize disruptions for all students, we are asking families to avoid scheduling appointments or checking students out early on testing days whenever possible. We want every student to have the opportunity to do their very best and show all they have learned this year.

Lastly, progress reports for Quarter 4 will be sent home with students on Wednesday May 13th and will also be available to view in PowerSchool. This is a great opportunity to check in on grades, missing assignments, and overall progress as we move through the final weeks of the school year.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work together to help our students finish the year strong!

Sincerely,

Keely Hardage
Principal
Magruder Middle School

What is a Portrait of a Graduate? It is the TUSD collective vision that articulates the desired outcomes of all K-12 students in Torrance Unified, including competencies and personal qualities that positions them for success in life and career.

At Magruder, Mustangs embody these skills and characteristics in a variety of ways every day—both inside and outside the classroom.

Growth Mindset and Lifelong Learning

This week we celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week and recognized the incredible impact of our staff. Through daily interactions, encouragement, and high expectations, our teachers help students grow academically and personally. Students shared appreciation cards with messages such as “someone who believes in you” and “someone who makes learning fun,” highlighting the important role our staff plays in fostering a growth mindset across campus.

Communication and Collaboration

Our drama students brought learning to life through their spring production of The Wizard of Oz. From rehearsing lines to performing on stage, students worked together to coordinate scenes, support one another, and deliver a cohesive performance. This experience highlighted the power of collaboration, communication, and teamwork.

Civic Engagement and Global Citizenship

We are proud to share that Sophia Meyer represented Magruder Middle School through a unique civic engagement opportunity. She shadowed current city council members and participated in a student city council meeting, gaining firsthand experience in local government and leadership. This experience highlights the importance of student voice and active participation in the community.

Leadership and Character

Students had the opportunity to participate in our first-ever PBIS walking field trip to Cane’s by redeeming their Mustang Moments. This experience celebrated students who consistently demonstrate being responsible, respectful, and thoughtful scholars. Their actions reflect strong character and highlight the leadership it takes to make positive choices each day.

Healthy Habits and Life Skills

Our flag football teams wrapped up their season with a final game against Casimir. We are incredibly proud of our student-athletes for their hard work, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the season. Their commitment and growth are reflected in their performance this year, and we celebrate the positive habits and life skills they’ve developed along the way.
