Cellphones OFF and AWAY from 8:10a to 2:55p Cellphones OFF and AWAY from 8:10a to 2:55p

No More Lunchtime Use Permitted No More Lunchtime Use Permitted

Please see the VERY IMPORTANT new Cellphone policy in FCPS for NEXT school year. We will continue to educate our students on this new expectation:

New Cellphone Policy Starts July 1st, 2026

On Thursday, May 7, the Fairfax County School Board approved changes to the FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R). The approved changes include updated guidance for cellphone possession and use, to align the FCPS cell phone policy with Senate Bill 108. This new Virginia law goes into effect on July 1 and states that all schools in the Commonwealth must follow a “bell-to-bell” phone-free policy.

This means that starting July 1, 2026, across all grade levels at FCPS, student cellphones, phone accessories, and all smart devices (including watches that serve a dual purpose, such as smart watches, as well as earbuds, headsets, smart glasses, and other other items connected to the internet) must be off and personally stored (i.e., put away in backpacks) for the duration of the school day — thus, no cellphones from bell to bell (8:10 am to 2:55 pm).

High school students will no longer be able to use cellphones and personal devices during lunchtime.

More details are available on the FCPS Cell Phone Policy webpage.

NOTE: As outlined in the new SR&R regulations, ALL students are expected to follow the established policy and the Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R). Students who do not comply will face consequences outlined in the SR&R.

Our MCJROTC cadets had an outstanding experience at the annual South Lakes Sports & Academics Competition this month.

This district-wide tournament is a highlight of the year, challenging cadets across a diverse range of events—from soccer and obstacle courses to the academic bowl and tug of war.

While our team secured a 3rd Place finish overall, our instructors are most proud of the "intangible wins." Beyond the scoreboard, it was inspiring to see these young leaders apply the teamwork and leadership principles we study in the classroom to a high-pressure environment. Watching their growth (physically, academically, and socially) remains the most rewarding part of this job!

Below is the link to a highlights reel from the event, it was a 7-hour day reduced to 11 minutes of highlights where you will see the leadership, teamwork, and hard work from our cadets: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PgwnG-rfHAejwx2XA-TvUBgqh3GREQhd/view?usp=drive_link

*Skinner Golf Tournament RESCHEDULED* *Skinner Golf Tournament RESCHEDULED*

Monday, June 1st Monday, June 1st

The MVHS Boosters have secured a new date for the Michael M. Skinner Mount Vernon Golf Tournament: Monday, June 1

This will be our final attempt to hold the event this year. If we fail to reach our player goal, the tournament will be canceled, marking the first time since 2011 that we have not held this community tradition.

This event is more than a round of golf. It is a primary fundraiser for Mount Vernon High School Athletics, supporting equipment, uniforms, and essential resources for our student-athletes across all sports.

We need your help to make this happen. We are currently short of our target field and are asking:

  • If you’ve been considering playing, please register now
  • If you know someone who might be interested, please forward this along
  • If your business can sponsor a foursome, it makes a meaningful impact

Learn more here! https://mvhsathleticboosters.com/golf-tournament

Register directly here! https://mvhsathleticboosters.com/ols/products/playerregistration

Event Details
Date: Monday, June 1
Location: Fort Belvoir Golf Club
Format: Team Scramble
Check-In: 7:00 AM | Shotgun Start: 8:00 AM

Important: To ensure seamless entry onto Fort Belvoir, all golfers must register by May 15 to be pre-vetted. After you register, we will request each golfer’s name as it appears on their ID and one of the following for base access: driver’s license (number and state), state ID (number and state), or passport (number, country, and date of birth).

Every registration gets us closer to ensuring this event, and the funding it provides, continues.

Thank you for supporting our Majors and helping us keep this tradition alive.

Early Release Days

In the event of a 3-hour early release, lunch service will still be available between 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. FNS proposes to offer grab-and-go meals for students, allowing them to go through the serving lines, choose items, and put them in provided meal bags. All meals provided by FNS must be consumed on-site.

State legislation and the FCPS Meal Charge Policy direct all school nutrition account negative balance communication to parents/caregivers. Additionally, students may not be denied a breakfast or lunch meal for any reason. FNS will work with school administrators to communicate low/negative account balances.

Menus

School menus offer a variety of entrees, fruits, and vegetables that meet or exceed USDA guidelines, including nutrient standards. Menus, allergens, and nutrition information are all available online at LINQ Connect. School menus will be published monthly, starting one week before the first day of school. FNS makes every effort to offer items as listed on the planned menu. Unanticipated substitutions are published on LINQ Connect whenever possible.

Mount Vernon High School is a vibrant educational environment characterized by commitment to excellence. Located less than a mile from George Washington's home, Mount Vernon High School is steeped in tradition. Founded in 1939, its long history of excellence is evident in its current students, faculty, and staff. Mount Vernon High School has a world-class curriculum. Students choose from a wide range of course offerings, including International Baccalaureate (IB) courses. The International Baccalaureate Program is a rigorous advanced-level program that is an option for students in their final two years of high school. Individual needs are accommodated through three special education programs, an English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) program, and advanced or accelerated courses in all disciplines. At Mount Vernon High School, technology enhances and adds dimension to instruction in all curricular areas.

In addition to outstanding academic programs, Mount Vernon High School offers students a broad range of extra-curricular and co-curricular activities designed to meet and extend the broad range of student interests. Fine and performing arts students and athletic teams have received numerous awards and recognition. Contributing to Mount Vernon High School's unique character and strength is its diversity. More than 50 countries and 30 languages are represented in its student population. This diversity is enjoyed and celebrated daily, as well as through a series of cultural events that bring students, parents, and faculty together and demonstrate cooperative living in a multicultural world. Mount Vernon High School is further enriched by the support of an active community.

At Mount Vernon High School, we value and believe members within our community should be:

  • Supportive,
  • Passionate,
  • Responsible,
  • Looking for Continuous Growth, &
  • Culturally Responsive

We know that our Majors achieve and thrive together with purpose and pride.
