🦑 This Week in Literacy: Exploring the Giant Squid!
Hello families! This week, our class will dive into the fascinating text Giant Squid: Searching for a Sea Monster as we strengthen our reading, writing, and language skills. Here’s what we’ll be working on:
đź“– Reading & Comprehension-
Identify the main idea and key details in a passage.
Use text features (like chapter titles, headings, and photos) to locate and organize information.
Use context clues to determine the meaning of new words during our New-Read Assessment.
Work in groups to explain how the author uses text features to organize information.
📝 Writing-
Write a summary of Giant Squid: Searching for a Sea Monster that captures the essential meaning of the text.
Write and review sentences with correctly capitalized titles.
đź’¬ Speaking & Listening-Participate in a Socratic Seminar, following discussion rules, listening respectfully, and sharing detailed, complete sentences.
🔤 Language & Grammar-Explain the function of adjectives and practice using them correctly in sentences.
🧠Hands-On Learning!
This Friday, students will participate in a real squid dissection to deepen their understanding of how scientists study sea creatures.
👉 Please make sure to turn in permission forms so your child can participate in this exciting experience!
It’s going to be an amazing week of learning and discovery! 🌊

Reading Specialist
Welcome back, 3rd grade students and families! My name is Mrs. Amanda Montgomery and I will be one of your child's Reading Specialists for this year. I am excited to start this school year by getting to know all of your child's strengths and then making a plan to help them grow as readers. Please do not hesitate to email me (amontgomery@marietta-city.k12.ga.us) or call, if you have any questions or concerns. This is going to be a great year of growth.
3rd grade will start their beginning of the year literacy assessments on August 4th. This process will take about 3 weeks to complete and it is very important for your child to be at school, ready to give their best! Thank you for all you do at home to support us here at school.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Amanda Montgomery
EIP
Reminder: Your student has made multiplication flash cards in class. Please encourage them to study the cards that come home to support strategy modeling in class.
IRR
I am an interrelated special education teacher; I will co-teach in Mrs. Baker and Ms. Castillo’s classrooms this school year. This is my second year teaching, and I am so excited to be teaching 3rd grade again at Park Street! If your child is in Mrs. Baker or Ms. Castillo’s homeroom and has an IEP, I will be their case manager this year. I will be your contact person regarding your child’s IEP needs. Please know that I am here to support your child and communicate with necessary staff information for the implementation of your child’s IEP. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
