FROM THE PRINCIPAL FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all going great and settling into the rhythm of the term. There is a real buzz around the school at the moment, and it has been fantastic to see students so engaged and connected in their learning.

One of the simplest and most powerful ways we can support learning is by starting the day on time. When students arrive before the 8.55 music, they have time to settle in, connect with their classmates and be ready to go from the very beginning. Those first few minutes often include some of the most important teaching of the day, so being there really does make a difference. Thanks for your help!

This term, our teachers have been focusing on how we keep students engaged and switched on in every lesson. We are using clear and consistent engagement norms across the school to help students stay focused and involved. Things like tracking the speaker, using gestures and showing readiness to respond at all times are all small habits that help create calm and purposeful classrooms.

We are also very lucky to have Moeko with us this term, visiting from Japan as part of a teacher exchange. Students have really enjoyed learning some simple Japanese phrases, customs and facts about life in Japan. Moeko has already made a great impression, and we are looking forward to seeing the ways she continues to enrich our school community over the term.

A huge good luck to our tee ball and netball teams heading to the division championships in Benalla tomorrow. These students have shown wonderful dedication and teamwork during training and will no doubt do us proud. No matter the result, we are behind you all the way.

Book Day is also just around the corner and we are already looking forward to a day full of colour, fun and creativity. If you have a clever costume idea for me, please feel free to pass it on. I always appreciate a bit of inspiration from our families. We love seeing how much joy Book Day brings to our students and the way it helps bring stories to life.

Thank you, as always, for everything you do to support your child’s learning and for the way you contribute to our school community.

Warm regards
Gary Darma

100 DAYS OF SCHOOL! 100 DAYS OF SCHOOL!

Last Friday the Foundation students celebrated 100 Days of School.

It was a wonderful day with our Foundation students and teachers dressing up as if they were 100 years old – everyone looked amazing. Thank you to the parents for the wonderful job they did with the dress ups.

Throughout the day we completed heaps of different activities based on the number 100, paraded around the school and made 100 day biscuits which were delicious!

Overall, it was an outstanding day, and we are really proud of our Foundation students and how far they have come this year.

If you’d like to help out at school—as a classroom helper, on excursions, or at Fruity Friday—Victorian law requires you to hold a current Volunteer Working with Children Check.

Apply (it’s free for volunteers):

workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au ▸ “Apply for a check”

(This link takes you to the Service Victoria portal where the whole application is completed online.)

Quick notes for families

  • The online form takes about 15 minutes; you’ll need proof‑of‑identity documents.
  • Once approved, you’ll get a physical card and a free digital card inside the Service Victoria app (handy if you forget the plastic one).
  • Please bring either card to the office before your first volunteer session so we can record your WWCC number and expiry date.

Thank you for helping us keep our students safe while strengthening our school community!

Hi parents and guardians,

Are you confident that your little soccer star is going to play again next year?

Then we need your help.

The time has come to form the bourchier street soccer club committee for next year.

We are holding an urgent club meeting on Wednesday 13th August at 5:30pm at the school office. Snacks and nibbles provided.

We will have 4 positions vacant on the committee for next year that will need to be filled by parents in order for the club to continue. All positions need a working with children's check.

Positions vacant include:

Club Delegate - This is the main contact for SJSA and the main person to organise and make decisions and process registrations (with support from the rest of the committee). This role doesn't require detailed knowledge about soccer, but does need good organisation, communication and some computer skills.

Club Treasurer - person to oversee the club bank account and all payments regarding the club spending.

Rostering Officer - This role is to help manage who goes into which team, complete the team sheets at the start of the season and help fill the duty day rosters as needed in the season.

Uniform officer - person in charge of organising the club uniforms into teams to be handed out at the start of the year and to help plan ordering of new shirts as needed.

The current committee members are all happy to handover and support the new incoming volunteers to the roles.

We'd like to take this opportunity also to thank the current committee members who are stepping down and also thank all families who've contributed to the club throughout the season.

If you have any questions about the roles, please get in touch to discuss before or bring your questions to the meeting next Wednesday.

It's important to note that if these positions aren't filled the school's club won't be able to continue next year.

Looking forward to seeing you at the meeting.

Cheers,

Bec Andersson

Club Delegate

Please make it a priority to arrive at school on time.

8.45am - music starts & students make their way to class.

8.55am - Class begins.

If your child/ren arrive to school after 9am they MUST come into the front office to get signed in otherwise our records could show them as absent.

It is extremely important for our school to keep strict attendance records.

When students are punctual, they are more likely to enter the classroom with a clear and open mind, ready to absorb information and engage actively in the day's curriculum.

PLAYGROUP EACH WEDNESDAY PLAYGROUP EACH WEDNESDAY

Free Playgroup at Bourchier Street – Everyone’s Welcome!

Come along to our free playgroup, held every Wednesday of the school term from 9:15am to 11:00am.

It’s a relaxed and friendly space with tea and coffee provided, and it’s run by the Shepparton Council with our lovely facilitator Syeda, who makes everyone feel welcome.

The playgroup is open to children aged 0–5 and their families — mums, dads, grandparents, carers — everyone’s welcome! Bring the kids along to make new friends and enjoy a fun morning of art and craft, educational play, block building, with story and rhyme time to finish the session.

If you’re picking your student up early If you’re picking your student up early

If a parent/guardian needs to pick up their student early from school for an appointment or any other significant reason, please notify your child’s teacher or the front office, with as much notice possible.

Often students are in a specialist program or out of the classroom, so if no notice is given it puts pressure on the office staff when trying to find students whilst answering phones and tending to sick bay.

Please be mindful as we have quite a few students leaving school early which interrupts the classroom as well as their learning time so please avoid this when possible.

SCHOOL UNIFORMS SCHOOL UNIFORMS

All children are expected to wear full school uniform

The wearing of school uniform helps children develop a sense of identity with the school community.
The school uniform helps promote a positive image of both students and the school to the general community. The wearing of school uniform promotes equality.

The school uniform is to be worn during school hours, while traveling to and from school, and when the students are on school excursions.

All school uniform must be clearly named so that lost items can be identified.

Jackets and hats can be purchased from the school. Shepparton retail shops stock the entire uniform. The school endeavors to provide pre-loved items at the cheapest possible cost.
