A Note from Mrs. Pitts
Dear RES Family,
This will be our last newsletter before the break! Enjoy this time, we will miss the kiddos but we will be back before we know it to enjoy our last couple of months until summer vacation.
Thank you for your support, as always!
Michelle
New Food Service Manager at RES
We want to introduce Joyce Krol who is managing our cafeteria! She provided us a little insight into who she is...
I live in Hampton with my husband of 37 years. My favorite people are my husband, granddaughter and great grandson and I can't forget Meeko my cat. I enjoy long walks and during the summer I can be found sitting beside the pool reading a book.
Please email Joyce at jkrol@sau50.org, if you have any questions!

The Leadership Survey Wonderings Answered (little by little)
Where is Mrs. Pitts?
I received a lot of incredible feedback from families that it was nice to see that I am often at drop off and pick up. These are two of my FAVORITE times of day because I get to see the children's smiling faces in the morning and check in at the end of the day to see what made them happy.
Well...did you know that the spring gets VERY busy!! If you don't see me as much in the morning and afternoon, please know it is not my choice. There are so many meetings and important jobs (hiring, placement, staffing, student data meetings, etc) that come up in the spring and these often occur at these times. I will be out there with children as much as I can!
Learning Resource Highlight: iReady and Lexia
iReady and Lexia are interactive learning apps that help your student with reading and math. Both apps are adaptive, which means they adjust to your child’s level, offering lessons that are just right for them. These apps are designed to supplement and enhance what your child is learning in class, but they do not replace the important teaching and support they get from their teachers. With screen time balance in mind, we are very careful about how many minutes students use these apps each week. Rest assured, your child will continue to receive plenty of hands-on learning and teacher support, alongside using iReady and Lexia!
Book Fair is Coming!!!
Scholastic Book Fair
1- April 14th- April 18th
- Your child will shop with their class sometime during this week.
- We allow shopping dependent on child's teachers wishes.
- Friday parents are welcome to shop after the assembly in the 1/2nd grade wing (students will be in class).
2- Payments-Ewallets are open!
- This is a painless way for your child to have shopping "credit" for the fair. When they come to check out a child is told their amount for spending or often teachers give them this ahead of time. Use QR code to set up an ewallet!
- Cash is also accepted!!
3- Teacher's libraries
- You can donate funds to a teachers classroom library through their individual classroom ewallet ( teachers will provide) or purchase at the fair.
- We will also have a teacher wishlist in the fair room to purchase on Friday.
4- Share the fair-
- This is new and totally optional but a way to fund a book for someone else in RES who may not have funds for a new book. Staff at RES will use these donation to purchase a book for anyone who needs.
5- Kid picks
- Please have a conversation with your child about acceptable purchases. While we can discourage them from buying 4 journals and a bookmark, ultimately it is their choice.
Looking forward to help your children shop the latest and greatest!

Lunch in Our Caf
We invite one family member at a time to have lunch with their child(ren) but this is very optional and we don't want families to feel pressured to attend. This is an occasional event as we do want children to build independence and social skills in the cafeteria, a perfect time for this!
- Email resoffice@sau50.org if you would like to attend with the date/time. It is important to anticipate who will be in the building. We love these opportunities for students and their family members but we will always put safety first.
- Adults must bring their own lunch and can bring lunch for their own child.
- We do have a focus during this time...eating for energy and brain power!
- Family members must meet the child in the cafeteria and leave from the cafeteria.
- Days for family visits are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We do not have lunch visitors on Fridays.
- Lunch times are:
Kindergarten-11:45-12:10
First Grade-12:10-12:35
Second Grade-12:10-12:35
Third Grade- 11:15-11:40
Fourth Grade-11:15-11:40
Spotlight: Our Kindergarteners are Superheroes!
Each year, we love stretching our Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) with a connection to superheroes. Many children are often enamored by the powers of superheroes! During this theme, we encourage students to think beyond those superficial and imaginative “powers”.
Our initial discussion begins with celebrating skills we are “super” at NOW and acknowledging skills we are not "super" at just YET. From here, we dig deeper:
How can you, a human, show/use your superpowers every day to help yourself and help others?
The book series "...is My Superpower", by Alecia Ortego, helps drive awareness that all of us, even young children, have “superpowers” that can be quite impactful personally and to others. It is so important to acknowledge these values/emotions and learn how to manage them from an early age.
GUEST SPEAKERS FROM OUR OWN COMMUNITY!
Students Learn about Teeth and Dental Health
We would like to say a special thanks to Dr. Dieter Knauss, local dentist and parent, who took the time to answer all of our fourth grade questions about teeth and dental health on Friday in World Language Health.
Thank you for taking the time to meet with us, Dr. Knauss!
Superpowers
Guest speaker, Caroline Kepka, visited us this week in World Language Health. Mrs. Kepka is an eighth grade science teacher at RJH and a three time speed skating Olympian! Mrs. Kepka shared her experiences in training for and participating in the Olympic Games. Her story is one of grit, perseverance, and determination. What an inspiring experience for our third graders! Thank you, Mrs. Kepka!
Sincerely,
Madame Piper and Mrs. Warden
Students Feel Like Olympians
Caroline brought in so many incredible pieces of memorabilia and our students were beyond lucky to interact with these tangible moments from Olympic history. It was incredible to hear about Caroline's path to the Olympics at a young age and our students received a real life lesson in our Purposefull People traits, such as perseverance and courage!
