The Principal's Desk At Sycamore

Principal's Message
Hello Sycamore Families!
I can't believe we are wrapping up another wonderful year at Sycamore ES! This year has been exciting for us academically and socially. We saw our PTA return with great participation and leadership. Our teachers and students in grades 1-4 participated in the now county adopted ELA program, EL Education. Kindergarten students began each morning with Joyful Learning, a program that promotes creativity and collaboration. Our fifth grade students explored academics through in house field trips and Media Center activities. It is truly a blessing to lead at a school where what's best for students is put first. Thank you to our parents, for all your support and involvement this year. We could not do it without you! I hope everyone has a restful and fun summer. We will see you back in August!
Warmly,
Dr. Scarborough

Please review, we will begin to implement the new procedures in the upcoming month.
As part of Gwinnett County Public Schools’ focus on safety, our school uses a visitor management system. This system, which requires visitors to be “buzzed” into the school, is intended to enhance the safety and security of both students and staff by establishing greater door control at the primary entrance to the school. With safety in mind, we want to remind you of how the visitor management system works.
- During normal arrival and dismissal times, key entrances are open to allow students to enter and leave the school. Once the school day begins, our doors will be locked.
- Visitors will need to press the bell button on the visitor management system panel and an office staff member will assist them.
- After being buzzed in , you will enter into the vestibule. Visitors will ring the second bell button and an office member will provide instructions on scanning your driver license. (This is a new procedure)
- After scanning your drivers license, you will be buzzed in and receive your visitor badge at the welcome desk. (This is a new procedure)
- When visitors are ready to leave, they should exit the school building through the main entrance and officially check out.
Please do your part to help keep our campus safe:
• If someone else is entering or exiting as you approach, please do not enter the open door. We ask that you push the bell button so our office staff can assist you.
• If an elementary or middle school student arrives late to school, the parent must accompany the child inside to sign in. Please do not drop off your child after the start of school and allow him or her to come to the locked entrance alone.
Thank you for your support and for working with us to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

COVID-19 Surveillance Testing
Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) is continuing its efforts to keep everyone in our schools and students and staff safe by making COVID-19 Surveillance Testing available to students and staff. In January of 2022, the district began piloting g in the Norcross Cluster. GCPS has since then expanded the program, offering this testing opportunity to students and staff in the Archer, Berkmar, Collins Hill, Dacula, Duluth, Grayson, Lanier, Norcross, and South Gwinnett clusters.
The GCPS COVID surveillance testing program is currently only available to students and staff members in the Archer, Berkmar, Collins Hill, Dacula, Duluth, Grayson, Lanier, Norcross, and South Gwinnett clusters. If you are a current student or employee in one of these clusters and are interested in participating in this pilot, click the link below.
If you signed up for the program last year, you would not need to complete the sign-up again.
Surveillance testing involves regular testing for the presence of COVID-19 in individuals in the school setting who do not have symptoms. Surveillance testing will allow GCPS to test, receive test results (within 24 hours), and notify individuals of a clinically significant reading. By participating, students and staff members can help to minimize the spread of the virus within our schools, which benefits us all.
Although participation in surveillance testing is not required for students or staff members, it is strongly encouraged. Participation will contribute to the success of this mitigation strategy and our schools’ ability to limit the spread of COVID and keep students learning in person.
Learn more about COVID testing by reviewing our frequently asked questions, located on the right side of this web page.
