Halloween: Costumes and Parade
Since costumes are in all the stores, we want to make sure families are aware of what Halloween looks like at school. The following are district-wide expectations for activities and costumes:
- Be timely: All celebrations should be limited in time and held at the beginning or end of the school day.
- Be respectful: Avoid stereotypes. Be racially sensitive and culturally appropriate. Students may not dress up as an ethnic or cultural group (i.e., a Mexican, a Geisha, a Native American, etc.). Skin color must not be altered in any way.
- Be responsible: Recognize that students in a wide age range will see the costumes. Costumes should be family-friendly. Costumes may not be gory or threatening.
- Be safe: No weapons, real or pretend are allowed (i.e. light sabers, swords, hooks, Wolverine claws). No hand-held accessories are allowed. Masks may not be worn, including inflatables that cover the face. Crowns or hats may be worn.
- Be kind: Costumes should be fun and exciting, not political, or offensive.
- Be understanding: Students may dress up as fictional characters if they follow the above guidelines.
*Face paint that follows the other rules is allowed, as long as it is applied before school, not at school.
Our Halloween parade will be first thing in the morning, starting a few minutes after 9:00. We will walk outside around the track, as we have done in previous years. Any other celebratory activities will take place at the end of the school day.
If you have any questions about a costume, feel free to text the principal with a picture of the costume (801-425-7499).
Champion Martial Arts Clinic
Champion Martial Arts is providing a 4-session clinic for Buffalo Point students for only $25. Champion grants the funds right back to the school as a service to BPE. THe four sessions are:
- November 3
- November 5
- November 10
- November 12
Each session is right after school, 3:30 - 4:00. That attached flyer is for registration. Hard copies are available in the office.
Volunteer Signups
We would love parent support with these upcoming events. Use the links for each to sign up where you can.
Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week is just around the corner, and we’re gearing up for a fun-filled week celebrating healthy choices and saying NO to drugs!
We’re looking for a few awesome parent volunteers to help make our recess activities a huge success. From cheering on games to helping with special events, your energy and smiles will make all the difference! If you’re available to help during recess, we’d love to have you join the fun and show our students that living drug-free is the best choice of all! Sign up today and help us make Red Ribbon Week one to remember!
November After School Movie
We’re excited to host an afterschool movie and popcorn event for our students! To make it a smooth and fun experience, we need a few parent volunteers. Door Greeters – Help check students in and keep things moving at the entrance., Popcorn Crew – Hand out popcorn to the kids (always a favorite job!). Chaperones – Stay in the room to help keep an eye on students during the movie.
