KISC Alumni Newsletter
March - April 2024
Welcome Note
The Easter Term finished at the end of March and it has been a busy term for everyone at KISC. Find the assembly photos on the KISC Facebook page.
In February KISC celebrated its 37th birthday with ‘Founders Day’ and a Global Day of Prayer. Founded in 1987, KISC has been through many joys and struggles, several different sites and many staff and students have passed through. We are grateful to be part of the present KISC family in Kathmandu and appreciate your interest and support as you too continue to be part of the family, across the world. Did you know that there are currently 232 students (108 in Primary and 124 in Secondary) and a total of 111 staff, which includes teachers (primary and secondary), operations staff and EQUIP trainers?
Other term highlights have been Athletics Day, House Music Competition and the setting up of the outdoor kitchen in the Primary play area (many thanks to anyone who contributed to that appeal).
We also celebrated academic achievements during the term. The British Ambassador presented the first ever international Qualified Teacher Status (iQTS) certificates in Nepal to two of our current staff, Mrs Raut and Mr Karki. The Ambassador also presented our KISC Secondary students in grades 11 and 12 with their Cambridge IGCSE and AS level certificates. Three students were also recognised at a special ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Hotel for being the highest achievers in Nepal in AS Levels (Psychology, Business, and English Language). Well done everyone!

Green Team
During the Harvest Term in 2023, KISC’s new ‘Green Team’, was formed. This is a student body with representatives from each class, with the aim to help drive KISC’s Creation Care efforts and help us to be more sustainable and responsible towards the environment. The Green Team has created its own mission statement: "We aim to improve the sustainability of our communities and to protect God's creation, by empowering youth, with responsibility." Since it was formed the team has been meeting regularly and during this term raised more than Rs 60,000 to help improve the waste management and recycling facilities around the site and to go towards other green initiatives. See the photos on the KISC Facebook page.
Electives
Do you remember electives? They continue to be a fixture on the school timetable every Friday afternoon. Topics currently available are football, crafts, strategy board games, badminton, cooking, debating, photography, ultimate frisbee, handicraft/knitting and recycling art.
Over the years there has been an amazing variety of electives offered to KISC students. What was your favourite? What was the most interesting or unusual one that you took part in? Please share your memories of electives on alumni@kisc.edu.np
KISC EQUIP
In February, the EQUIP team celebrated the end of its School Transformation Programme in Besisahar, Lamjung. One of the major events of this celebration was a maths exhibition, organised in collaboration with EQUIP's 15 partner schools in Lamjung. All the partner schools had created creative and beautiful exhibits and over 1200 students from different schools visited the exhibition. Watch the video on the KISC YouTube channel, and subscribe to the channel if you have not.
It was great to welcome back former EQUIP staff, Annie Brown, Joy Ransom and Phillipa Munday, who joined the celebration in Lamjung. The Education Section Head and Education Section Officer of Besisahar municipality were also special guests for the event and they both spoke highly about EQUIP's contribution to schools in Lamjung over many years.
While the work of EQUIP in Besisahar has come to an end, we are grateful that the work in Lamjung will continue in a new area. An agreement has been made between the local authorities in Sundarbazaar, Lamjung and KISC, and a funding partner has agreed to support work in seven schools.
The regular KISC EQUIP newsletter was published recently. Follow the link to read.
Basketball Court Appeal
A big thank you to everyone who has donated to this Student Council initiative, following the email in March. So far £3,500 (c. $4,500) has been raised.
The initial fundraising phase is scheduled to end at the end of the Easter Term but if you are interested in helping to put a roof over the current basketball court, the donations page will remain open: GoFundMe or www.kisc.edu.np/give.
