HAPPY VETERAN'S DAY!
Dear Parents of Julian Curtiss students,
We had a busy but successful week at JC with the highlight being our Veteran's Day Assembly. Our students learned about the meaning of Veteran's Day and every class participated in showing our Veteran's their gratitude with cards, posters and different forms of art work. A special thank you to the Veterans that participated in our assembly today.

Earlier in the week we held math night at Julian Curtiss. Mr. Michael Reid, Math Program Coordinator, came to present to our parents and then families played math games with their children. There were lots of take home goodies and a few raffle prizes. Stay tuned for Literacy night in January.
Please make sure to do the following this weekend::
1. Parents in grades k-3 should check their child's back pack for their Dibels Assessment Report and read the section on Dibels in this newsletter.
2. Sign up for the Turkey Trot and mention Julian Curtiss
3. Check out the presentation below that was delivered to parents on Math Night.
4. Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Trish McGuire and Matthew Hartigan

DIBELS Score Reports
DIBELS Score Reports
For families with children in grades K-3 and grades 4-5 with reading goals on their IEP, DIBELS Home-Connect report will be sent home in student folders Friday, 11/10/23. DIBELS is GPS’s universal reading screening assessment tool that measures early literacy skills aligned to the five pillars of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The Home-Connect report reviews the skills your child was assessed from September 18 through October 6 and makes suggestions on things you can do at home to support their continued progress as a reader. These scores are a baseline for students and their progress will continue to be monitored in the winter and spring. If you have questions about your child’s scores, please reach out to your child’s teacher or building administrators. For more information about DIBELS, please read the parent guide in English or Spanish.
FRESH MOBILE PANTRY
Good afternoon,
See below for some information about a new Fresh Mobile Pantry that will be offered on a monthly basis out of Stamford through Filling in the Blanks. This information has been shared with all of the Social Workers, so they are aware and can pass the information along as well. Feel free to share in your newsletters as you see fit.
Filling in the Blanks recently received a donation from the Shonda Rhimes Foundation, which was put towards a Fresh Mobile Food Pantry! This mobile pantry is accessible to anyone who is interested, no referral, connection to FiTB or pre registration necessary. The mobile pantry will park at Cloonan Middle School in Stamford the third Saturday of the month from 9am - 11am. If you have families who are interested, encourage them to get there as close to 9 as possible so they have more options to choose from. There will be a registration table set up upon arrival where parents will be asked for their name, address, email and phone number.
The next date is:
Saturday November 18th
Cloonan Middle School
11 W North Street, Stamford, CT
9am - 11am
*December date ~ To Be Determined*
REPORTING STUDENT ABSENCES
All absences must be called into the main office. We realize some parents prefer to email the teacher but we miss messages that way. Please ALWAYS call the absence in at 203-869-1896. Thank you for your cooperation!!
