Superintendent Message
Hopefully everyone had a relaxing winter break and may 2024 bring you much success and happiness!
Although the winter weather has decided to come now that we have returned to classes, it was inevitable that it would arrive! For guidance on inclement weather guidelines please visit our website: https://www.wl.k12.ia.us/page/inclement-weather-guidelinesopen Also, this is a reminder that, per our calendar and the state required 1080 hours, any cancellations over 4 days will be made up at the end of the school year.
Next, we have some extremely exciting news! On Monday, January 8th, Comets Eric Yao, Bryson Garcia, Betsy Bejarano, Pearson Hall and Instructor Mrs. Henderson, also known as 'The Power of a Hand' group, delivered their inspiring message to more than 350 people in 16 locations globally! This is a story of a young man's determination, perseverance and creativity in the process of building several prosthetic prototypes, and the innovation behind it all. It centers around Eric Yao, his passion for LEGO's, and the challenges and fears that he faced every day working his way through life with only six fingers.
The story of Eric's courage and personal growth through each stage of development will touch the hearts of many, as Eric and The Power of a Hand team continue to share the details of Eric's transformative journey. Eric is a inspiration to all of us!
Eric, the West Liberty Community School District is very proud of you, your amazing story, and the outstanding young man you've become. Thank you, Eric, for letting us hear about your story!

Capital Projects
Athletic Complex
Heading into the new year, there are a few items still remaining to be completed at the new activities complex. As a district, we are continually meeting with Knutson Construction managers on a biweekly basis. Power to the site is slated to be installed and hooked up by the end of the month, and the siding on the concession stand and ticket booth should be wrapped up by then as well. Also, we are first on the list of three track stripers for this spring, so if all goes well, the track will be ready for our first meet in April.
Thank you for your patience as the project work is completed. We want this project finished in a timely manner, and we also want to ensure that our students and community have an outstanding, high quality facility for many years to come.
