The “Together” is back! Thanks to Nicholas Honeycutt and our office staff, we are trying a new format. Once a month we will send our newsletter out electronically and have printed copies available. It is an important way to know what is happening at Mars Hill Baptist Church. We are an active church family with a lot of things going on. We will try to help you be better informed, and let you know more ways you can participate. There is no question that we are better “Together”.

April was an amazing musical month!

April was a month filled with wonderful music. On Palm Sunday, The Chancel Choir, accompanied by our brilliant organist/pianist Jessica Siple and a delightful chamber orchestra along with many talented soloists and narrators; LinDa Campbell and Bill Welsch presented “Worthy Is the Lamb”. It was sublime!!

Easter Sunday the choir announced the Threefold Truth - “Christ Has Died, Christ Is Risen, Christ Will Come Again” , the flower cross was decorated beautifully with flowers from your gardens, and a stirring Resurrection Day sermon preached by our pastor, Tommy Justus.

On April 27, our Children’s Choir, accompanied by the gifted Denise Dellinger, piano along with several incredible soloists and narrators from the Children’s Choir.

We are thankful for all the talented folks who share their musical gifts to praise God and bless our congregation and community! Our Choirs will be taking a hiatus for the summer. We would love to have YOU join us when we resume this fall!!

Blessings and peace,

Sharon

This new digital "Together" will be shared the first Sunday of each month. We hope you enjoy this and please let us know if you have information to share. What's Happening on the 3rd Floor? What's Happening on the 3rd Floor?

Our church has been the hands and feet of Jesus in countless ways since Hurricane Helene upended the mountains of North Carolina. We have distributed meals, food, coats, heaters, and many other items that people brought into our church by the truckloads. However, we have done something that would have caused friction and frustration for many churches. We have not only allowed people to stay in our church building so that they could serve in the rebuilding process, but you have also welcomed them with open arms.

To date, seventeen teams have used our third floor as a base for working in the area, and without exception, all groups have commented on the wonderful hospitality they received while here. They have spoken about the warmth and welcome extended to them. They took pictures of the sign that greeted them when they entered the door with their name on it, and they appreciated the friendliness they felt from everyone they encountered, right up until they were packing up to make room for another group.

So, thank you, Mars Hill Baptist, and Jamie, who worked around all of these groups while they were fixing breakfast and packing lunches as she was starting lunch for the meal site. Thank you to Earl and Sandy for keeping the rooms guest-ready and coming to the church to greet groups and answer questions. I have always loved this church, but you have made me so proud to call this my home church.

Dr. John Hough has served as the Sunday School Superintendent at Mars Hill Baptist Church for over 50 years.

Dr. Hough is the first to greet a visitor and find out who you are. He usually can make a connection with someone or somewhere with each visitor. Dr. Hough taught in the education program at Mars Hill College from 1962-1984, and again from 1994 until his retirement in 1998. He has recently served as leader of the Mars Hill University Retirees Group. He has served on the Smart Start Board for Madison County and many other civic clubs and organizations. He is an advocate for children and education.

A fun fact about Dr. Hough is that as a retired elementary school principal, he has provided a lot of men in the church with some wonderful ties!

Click here for the daily devotional experience.

d365 is a daily devotion written for youth and adults. The devotion follows a five-step format – Pause, Listen, Think, Pray, Go.

  • The Pause step remains the same all week and is designed as a centering tool as you begin the devotion.
  • The Listen step is the scripture passage for the day, using the Common English Bible translation.
  • The Think step is the devotional thought by the week’s writer.
  • The Pray step is the start of a prayer that you can expand into your own conversation with God.
  • The Go step is a call to action – launching you from this moment toward acting on what you have heard.
