Deer Hill Need to Knows
Absence Line & Email Address: 781-383-6115; DHS-notes@cohassetk12.org. Please note that students are responsible for knowing their dismissal plan each day. Any same day changes must be made by calling the office as teachers are not able to monitor their email while teaching.
The Skipper Creed on the Road: Unfortunately it has been reported that Deer Hill students have not been following the Skipper Creed of safe, respectful, and responsible behavior at recent high school football games: running through crowds and booing loudly at the other team are just a couple of examples. This is NOT how we want to represent our school in the community and so today we had a visit from CHS administration and high school sports team captains with an important reminder of how we can be supportive fans at sporting events. The captains did a GREAT job of sharing some fun cheers and Athletic Director Steve Rotondi followed with clear behavior expectations. We also respectfully ask you to do your part. High school sporting events should not be considered drop off events for elementary school students or places where students in this age group are unsupervised by their families. The limited staff present does not have the capacity to supervise Deer Hill students or reinforce expectations when they aren't being followed. We are working on a more detailed expectations document to share with the community but it really can be summarized by the Skipper Creed of safe, respectful, and responsible behavior.
Buses & Instruments -- a Tight Squeeze: Our buses are at FULL capacity and instruments are additional "passengers" that complicate things a bit. If your schedule allows, please consider driving your child to school if they are toting a large instrument case. Alternatively, perhaps the instrument can hitch a ride with you while your child catches the bus -- our vestibule is open from 8:00-4:00 and instruments are welcome to be dropped off or picked up there.
Scholastic Book Fair: Thank you to PSO book fair chairs, April Silvia and Molly Urquhart, for your work to organize this year's book fair. Click the flyer to access more details. We're looking forward to a great event!

Deer Hill Happenings
New Viewsonic Boards: This week Deer Hill received 13 new Viewsonic smart boards as part of a town capital budget expenditure. This represents about half of our learning spaces with the remaining boards projected to be installed next school year. They were immediately put to use and the feedback from teachers and students has been enthusiastically positive. We're so grateful to have this new technology in our building!
Bus Safety Assemblies: On Tuesday our Director of Transportation, Kim Zitoli, and I met with each grade level to review expectations for bus behavior. Students were reminded of how the Skipper Creed is demonstrated on our buses and had an opportunity to practice a safe evacuation. Riding the bus is a privilege and we appreciate all students doing their part to make it a positive beginning and end to each school day.
