We will quickly approach the school year in the coming days and weeks. Prom this weekend, testing next week, and then it will be time for graduation and final exams. This year the action around the school doesn’t stop when the students leave. The day after students leave, we will begin the $15 million in renovations and campus improvements as part of our bond work. On the outside we are getting a new turf field, roofing repairs, and resurfacing of the track, tennis courts, and parking lots. Inside there is new carpet, painting, HVAC repairs, and renovations to our student center / MoHi Perk coffee shop and cafeteria. We have also been able to address a lack of gender neutral bathroom accessibility for our students, staff, and visitors. Finally, we have specific things happening with our career and technical education classrooms to help improve the learning environments for engineering, broadcast journalism, culinary arts, and a new program in the health sciences.

Below are a couple of renderings of the proposed projects. We will be super excited to welcome back students in August when we have these different upgrades that help with the aesthetics and functionality of our building.

Have a great weekend!

SENIOR POSTERS

Senior posters due April 1-4

It has been a long-standing tradition at Monarch HS for senior families to create a photo poster to celebrate their graduating senior. Typically these posters have been displayed only at After Prom, but this year they will be on display at Monarch HS for the week leading up to Prom/After Prom. Please look here for senior poster guidelines and examples.

Posters must be dropped off at the Monarch front office between April 1-4 and they should be collected April 14-17—many families re-use these posters for graduation parties.

Contact monarchafterprom@gmail.com with questions.

2025 State Testing Information

Its TIME!! Your students will take the State of Colorado’s Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) Science as well as the PSAT9/PSAT10 and SAT in two weeks. We need to know if your student is going to be in attendance, and if they are not, please complete this Google form.

Please see the schedule with specific dates and times below:

Again, I would like to encourage all of our students to participate in testing this year. If you have questions, I welcome the opportunity to chat with you about this important effort no later than March 5, which is the district deadline for submitting written requests to opt a student out of testing. Click here for additional information about testing, including a general schedule of these assessments in the Boulder Valley School District, including the grades affected.

For any questions or concerns or to request more information, please contact either assistant principal Ailey Ruger or assistant principal Dr. Cara Maronek.

TESTING OPT OUT FORM
You must complete the form for each test that your student is taking in order to opt out of all of tests.

For students who have testing accommodations, testing slips with your students' accommodation and what room they will be testing in were sent out on Thursday, March 13th. You can reach out to Dr. Maronek if your student did not get an accommodation slip, and you feel this is an error. We will have lists on test day to make sure your student gets to the room they are going to test in case this slip gets lost before then.

AP Testing Volunteers

It is that time of year again -- AP testing is right around the corner and we could use some help! We need Hall Monitors because our testing groups are so large! (Way to go Coyotes!) It is important that we have a certain number of adults here to help the testers have their best experience. The only qualification is that you cannot be a hall monitor if you have a student in the exam room.

SENIORS! Are you thinking about paying for college?

We know many of you are applying to college, and part of that process is figuring out how to pay for it!

The first step is filling out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

The FAFSA has undergone some big changes in the last couple years causing some confusion.

Here is an article about the FAFSA and when you should apply.

KYOT 04/08/2025
Before Spring Break, BVSD schools were closed because many teachers protested at the state capitol. We look back at the protest to see what it was all about. Then, a special furry friend visits the halls of Monarch--and it's not who you think.
