READING WITH FLAT OAKIE: FALL BREAK!
Fall Break is a perfect time to get in lots of reading with Flat Oakie! If you catch your kiddo reading with Flat Oakie, submit their photo via the Google Form linked in any of the places listed below. 💚
Photos that are emailed to Ms. G or to classroom teachers will not be included in the morning news show.
We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Maeretha Smith to our staff as our School Health Aide. For any health-related questions, please feel free to email her at maeretha.smith@csdecatur.net.
IF YOU USE OUR CAR LINE, PLEASE READ THIS!
CAR RIDERS: RIGHT TURN ONLY ONTO MEAD BEGINNING 9/30
Due to a growing number of car riders, our car line is busier than usual this year. To keep traffic moving smoothly, keep our dismissal and drop-off on schedule, and protect student safety, we're implementing a traffic change.
Beginning Monday, September 30th, the exit from school car rider line onto Mead Road will be right turn only during arrival (8:00 - 8:15) and dismissal (2:50 - 3:05).
Please plan alternate routes to College Avenue during these peak times to avoid delays.
Please also remember that you may only turn right into the school driveway from Feld for arrival and dismissal.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students safe and our line moving! A big thank you as well to everyone sharing kind words and waves with Mr. Morgan and Mr. Baer while they directs traffic - your patience and community spirit make a huge difference.
BASC-BESS Universal Screener: October 1-30
The City Schools of Decatur will administer the BASC-BESS Universal
Screener from October 1–30, 2026. This brief screener helps schools
identify students who may benefit from additional behavioral,
social-emotional, or wellness support. The BASC- BESS is not a diagnostic
assessment; it is one tool used to help us identify needs early and provide
appropriate support. Families who do not want their child to participate
may complete an Opt-Out Form by Friday, September 18, 2026.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT GIFTED REVIEW

Each fall semester, the gifted review team reviews existing student data to discuss students’ needs and to determine whether further evaluation for gifted identification is needed. If you are interested in having the team discuss your child’s needs, please complete a Recommendation for Review Form by Wednesday, September 30. No additional information is needed.
For more detailed information about the review process, please contact the Gifted & Talented Specialists for your school, Amanda Lockwood at alockwood@csdecatur.net or Courtney Hartnett at chartnett@csdecatur.net or visit our website’s FAQ page.
