Letter from the Principal/Carta de la directora

Dear HMS Families,

Thank you to all of the families that attended the Winter Concert. It was an amazing show, and we appreciate Mrs. Guenther and Ms. Winter for their dedication and support in helping our students grow.

This upcoming week will be our PBIS Holiday Extravaganza. We are so excited for it. If you would like to help out at the store, please sign up here. We are also looking for gift wrap donations, including but not limited to: gift bags, tissue paper, wrapping paper, tape, and gift tags.

This week, we will finish NWEA testing for any students who were absent or still need to complete an assessment. Our students have taken the testing very seriously, and we’ve enjoyed celebrating their progress with them. If you are eager to see results before scores are emailed home in the new year, students who have completed testing should have a screenshot of their scores.

We will be having Pajama Day on Friday, December 19th. Students are encouraged to wear comfy, school-appropriate pajamas. Please remember no hoodies.

This will be our last newsletter of 2025. As we get ready for Winter Break, I want to wish everyone a joyful and restful holiday season. Thank you for being such an important part of our Heritage community. I hope the break brings you time to relax, recharge, and celebrate with loved ones.

Thank you,

Michelle Hauer

Parking

For the safety and accessibility of our school community, please do not park or stop in the fire lane or in designated handicap parking spaces. These areas must remain clear at all times to ensure emergency access and to support those who require accessible parking. Thank you for your cooperation.

Attendance Communication

Beginning Sunday, December 7th, all parents and guardians will receive a weekly email summarizing their student’s attendance for the school year. This update will include the number of days present, absent, and tardy. Our goal is to provide you with timely and transparent information so that together we can encourage strong attendance habits and promptly address any concerns that may arise.

We are sharing this information to partner with families, asking for a commitment to make sure your child attends school every day possible this year. The evidence is clear: students with strong attendance are more likely to be successful in school. High attendance rates are linked to high student achievement and strong student academic growth. This is true for every grade and every group of students.

Regular attendance is key to student achievement, and we believe that consistent communication will help us work as a team to ensure every student is present, engaged, and prepared to learn. If you have questions about the weekly attendance updates or notice information that needs clarification, please feel free to contact your school office.

Thank you for your partnership in supporting our students. We look forward to continuing to work together to create a positive and successful school year for all.

In Partnership,
Berwyn South School District 100

PBIS Rewards

We utilize an app called PBIS Rewards where students earn points throughout the school year for being Responsible, Respectful and Safe. We have a PBIS store that we open for students to purchase fun items with their points. We also do raffles, field trips and a winter extravaganza that students can utilize their points throughout the year. We encourage students to use their points by the end of the year as they do not roll over!

StopIt

This week, students will download STOPit to their iPads. This is an online application that Heritage students have access to. This application allows students to anonymously report incidents of bullying, misconduct or general concerns. All reports go to the support service team and administration, which allows us to act quickly and in real time to any concerns or incidents.

Breakfast & Lunch

Students at Heritage receive free breakfast and lunch each day if they choose to participate, or they may bring their own lunch from home. As a healthy school, we ask that students do not bring pop, energy drinks, or large bags of snacks.

Breakfast will be served each morning before students head to their Period 1 class. Lunch will take place at the scheduled time according to the bell schedule, and students will also have the option to participate in recess during their lunchtime.

Below will be where you can find the menus for Heritage through OrganicLife.
