Cliff Notes
Hello Clio High School Community!
I wanted to take a second to introduce myself and give you a little information about myself. My name is Kevin Cliff, no relation to the founder of Cliffs Notes, though. This is my 19th year in education, with the last two years spent as an Athletic Director and Dean of Students in a 7-12 school. Prior to my administrative roles, I taught math, science, PE, yearbook, and newspaper at the high school and middle school levels. My stops prior to education were serving in the Navy and working as an engineer/planner in the semiconductor industry. I live in Bay City with my wife, son, two dogs, and two cats.
I have enjoyed my first week at Clio High School, getting to know a number of students and staff. My purpose in pursuing education was to work with and help students to be the best they can be, and I look forward to doing just that here in Clio, meeting and working with more students as the year goes on. I’m sure you’ll see me at events throughout the year, so don’t hesitate to introduce yourself. Here's to a wonderful new school year ahead. My door is always open, so please feel free to email me at kcliff@clioschools.org or stop by if there's ever anything I can help with.
Mr. Kevin Cliff
Assistant Principal
Traver Talk
There’s something special about the first few days of school and watching Clio High School come back to life. The hallways are busy, classrooms are settling into routines, and our students are reconnecting with friends and staff. The first-week jitters are slowly subsiding. Locker combinations get a little easier each day, finding your way to third hour becomes more routine, and the unfamiliar faces of new classmates become a little more familiar. As we settle in, I can’t wait to see where this year takes us. We have big plans for our students’ success, and we’re looking forward to partnering with each of you along the way.
This week, we had the opportunity to meet with our freshman and sophomore classes to talk about setting goals for the year. There was a lot of energy in the gym, and I’m excited to see where our Mustangs take it. One of the messages we shared was simple, but incredibly important: showing up matters. Last year, 167 CHS students were chronically absent, meaning they missed more than 10% of the school year. Missing school adds up quickly. It means missed instruction, missed conversations, missed connections, and sometimes missed opportunities to get help before a student falls behind.
As we start the year, please know that our door is open. If you have a question, call or email. We do our best to communicate clearly, but if something doesn’t make sense or you aren’t sure where to turn, reach out. My contact information is below, so save it and use it when you need it. We’re all on the same team when it comes to helping our Mustangs succeed.
For our senior families, please join us next Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the Media Center for our Senior Parent Meeting. We’ll walk through requirements, events, and important dates for the year ahead. Senior year will fly by, and this meeting will help make sure we’re all on the same page.
Thank you for partnering with us as we build a strong Mustang community!
