Headteacher's Message
Dear Families
It has been a really positive first week back at Teddington School, and it has been wonderful to see our students settling back into school routines so well. Thank you to our students, families and staff for helping us make such a successful start to the new academic year.
Thank you to all the parents and carers of our Year 7, Year 11 and Year 12 students who joined us for our Parent Information Evening on Wednesday. We hope the evening provided a useful insight into the year ahead and gave you an opportunity to find out more about what to expect during this important stage of your childβs education.
As we settle into the new school year, please remember the importance of excellent attendance and punctuality. Every day and every lesson counts, and regular attendance plays an important part in students making the most of their education. Thank you for your continued support in ensuring your child arrives at school on time and ready to learn each day.
A big thank you to families for your support with our school uniform expectations and Yondr phone pouches during the first week. Students have made a really positive start, and your support in reinforcing our expectations at home makes a real difference.
Our extra-curricular clubs will go live next week for all year groups. There is a fantastic range of opportunities available for students to get involved in beyond the classroom.
Full details can be found on our website, including our sports clubs. Information about our paid extra-curricular clubs has also been shared with families this week. We strongly encourage students to take advantage of the opportunities available to them β whether that is sport, music, the arts, academic enrichment or one of the many other clubs on offer.
Next week, on Thursday 17 September, we will be holding our school photo day for Years 7, 9, 11 and 12. Please ensure that students attend school in full school uniform and are looking smart and ready for their photographs.
Looking ahead to this half term, we are preparing for our Open Evening on Wednesday 30 September. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase Teddington School to our local community and welcome prospective families into the school.
Please note that school will close at 12:20 on Wednesday 30 September to allow our staff and students time to prepare for the evening. If we would like your child to take part as a school ambassador, we will be in touch with you closer to the date with further information.
Thank you once again for your continued support. It has been a fantastic first week, and we are looking forward to all that the new academic year has in store.
Kind regards
Paul Grills

Weekly Highlights
π Year 13 Physics at the House of Lords
Three of our Year 13 Physics students were invited to the House of Lords to attend the All-Party Parliamentary Engineering Group conference, exploring how engineering and space applications are shaping society.
Students heard from experts across the space industry, from remote-sensing satellite start-ups to large-scale communications and satellite data companies. They also had the opportunity to ask questions, meet students and academics from other institutions, and share ideas about the future of the sector.
A fascinating and valuable experience, giving our students plenty of food for thought about the opportunities and impact of engineering and space technology. ππ°οΈ
πβ¨ Back to learning!
Our Year 8 students have been getting stuck into English on their second day of term, diving straight into their learning and embracing the new academic year.
Itβs fantastic to see everyone back in the classroom and ready for another year of curiosity, creativity and discovery! π
Congratulations to our students of the week π
Parent Volunteer Support Needed: Rapid Reading Programme
We are looking for parent volunteers to support our Rapid Reading Programme, a targeted intervention designed to help some of our students to develop their confidence, fluency and enjoyment of reading.
The sessions take place twice per week from 8.30am to 9.00am, Monday to Thursday, and volunteers can choose the days that work best for them. Full training and preparation will be provided, so no previous experience is necessary.
At this stage, we are simply seeking expressions of interest. Once we have your details, we will be in touch with more information about the programme and next steps.
If you would like to support this valuable initiative, please complete the sign-up form by Friday 18 September. If you have any questions, please direct these to Leanne Merson on mersonl@teddingtonschool.org.
Thank you for helping us make a difference to our students' reading journey.

TEDdington Talks: Share your passion and inspire our students
We are currently looking for volunteers to deliver TEDdington Talks to our students.
TEDdington Talks is a speaker programme that brings together professionals, alumni, parents and members of the wider community to share their experiences, insights and passions with our students. The aim is to broaden horizons, inspire ambition and help students learn from a diverse range of real-life journeys and career pathways.
Whether you have an interesting career, a unique life experience, a hobby you are passionate about, or expertise in a particular field, we would love to hear from you.
If you are interested in delivering a TEDdington Talk, please complete the attached Microsoft Form and I will be in touch to discuss the opportunity further.
Thank you for helping us inspire the next generation.
Teddington Soul Band to Perform at The Exchange Theatre
We are delighted to share that the Teddington Soul Band will be starting the new school year with a special performance at The Exchange Theatre in Twickenham on Friday 16 October. Doors open at 7pm.
The Exchange is launching a new youth music event, giving young people the opportunity to perform on a professional stage alongside other young bands and performers. This will be the first event of its kind, and we would love to see as many of our families as possible there to support our students.
All proceeds from the event will go towards funding future Exchange Sessions, helping to provide more opportunities for young people to get involved in music and live performance.
We hope you can come along and support the Teddington Soul Band as they take to the stage!
