Welcome to another great week Unicorn Families!

Thank you to those that attended our First Friday Family Lunch Day, Parent University, and Chuck e Cheeses' Spirit Night. It always a pleasure to engage with our families. The Mt. Vernon school community thrives when our families are connected to the learning environment. Thank you for partnering with us as we race toward success!!

Our September PTA Meeting will be held on September 15th at 6:00 pm in our Media center. We will engage in our final planning for our Fall Festival taking place on September 17th. Please plan to join us for this joyous occasion. Admission is free. We will have tons of fun for students and families to enjoy. We hope to see you there!

This week is celebrate attendance week. We are showcasing the importance of attending school regularly. Please see the flyer below on how you can support your student in participating. Additionally, we have our first skating party of the year. Pick-up time is 5:45 p.m. at the bus gate. Please be sure that your child is picked up in a timely manner. Please see our calendar of events below to be in the know of all that is happening on our campus.

Enrichment invitations will be coming home on Tuesday. There will be a quick turnaround as our enrichment cubs start on September 16th. Enrichment is filled on a first come, first served basis. Transportation will be provided for those who would like to take advantage. Please see the invitation for more information. Please be sure to return your child's completed enrichment form as soon as possible.

Parents, we are still selling our World's Finest Chocolates Candy Bars. Please consider taking a box to support this fundraiser.

Parents, please be reminded that if you are dropping off or picking your student up by car, the car circle is the safest place for that exchange. We are still seeing a few students dropped in the street or students running to cars at the instruction of an adult. This is extremely unsafe. We ask that parents please use the car circle if dropping their students off or picking them up in a car. No walk-up will be permitted at the car circle.

If you missed our Annual Title 1 Meeting, please see the presentation below. If you have questions around our Title 1 grant, please reach out to Ms. Bohannon, our Title 1 Liaison.

Thank you for your continued support of a magical school year!

Magically yours,

Principal Dixon

Every student, every day. It's the Unicorn way!

  • Afternoon dismissal begins at 2:55. Please be sure that you make the necessary arrangements for your student to be picked up on time. After 3:15, students must be signed out in the front office.
  • Parents, please don't surround the walkers gate at dismissal, eliminating a safe walking space for our walkers. If you are waiting to walk with your student, we ask that you wait on the sidewalk away from the entry/exit. Thank you for keeping this gate clear to exit.
  • Fridays are House Spirit Days! We encourage students to wear their house shirts/colors on Fridays to show their house spirit. Students wearing their house shirt/color on Fridays will receive an extra house point.
  • Student agendas will be used in grades K-5. Please make it a habit to check/sign (initial) your child’s agenda each day.
  • Our school website will be another communication tool, again this year. Each week, we will post the Parent Weekly Rainbow and other pertinent information on our website. Please plan on remaining informed by visiting our website frequently.

Ms. McCrea, our Family Community Liaison, is the point of contact for all volunteering opportunities. She can be reached at 727-893-1815 or Mccreaz@pcsb.org. All volunteers must be registered and Level II cleared. Level II volunteers must always have their Level II badge and their driving license when arriving on campus. If you would like to become a registered volunteer, please go ahead and get this process started. It takes about 2-3 weeks to become a registered volunteer.

Reminder, our pantry is now open daily from 9:15 until 10:15. Please feel free to stop by when bringing your student to school. We are excited to offer daily shopping opportunities. If this time doesn't work, an appointment can always be made.

We currently have the following volunteer opportunities:

  • UniMart Pantry support
  • Lunch Pals (30 mins per week)
  • First Friday Family Lunch (every 1st Friday)
  • PTA/SAC Member (3rd Tuesday of each month)

Attendance Matters! Attendance Matters!

Parents, if your child is going to be absent for any reason, please use the QR code below to notify us that your student will be absent. If an excuse note is provided, please send it in with your student upon their return. We have a goal this year that 90% of our students attend school regularly (don't miss more than 10% of school) Please help us reach this goal by ensuring that your student attends regularly.
