Panorama Screener

All students will be participating in the screener tool for Social Emotional Learning called Panorama. We have used this tool to help us better support the needs of students and develop some student groups for instruction in SEL. A screener collects information specific to each student regarding social emotional skills and well-being to determine whether additional assessment, support, or intervention is needed. This is different than a survey which would collect general information about students' experiences or thoughts in a particular area. We will be working on completing the Panorama screener over the next week. A copy of a parent letter is in the Counselor's Corner. Check it out!

Trail of Treats- Candy Wars!

Which grade level will bring the most candy? The students are currently collecting bags of candy by grade level for the Trail of Treat at SES for Fall Festival. Please use the QR code below if you want to set up a table for the Trail of Treats. It is similar to a Trunk or Treat, but you will use a table instead of the trunk. Grade levels are trying to get the great amount of candy for the event! The candy can be placed in the monsters in the lobby!

REPEAT:

Choose to be Nice
  • As part of our school wide commitment to everyone being included and being kind to each other, we use a resource called, Choose to be Nice. Each month, each grade level gathers to review expectations for the character trait of the month and learn examples of how the trait is displayed in daily interactions. We also celebrate the students of the month and the class with the best attendance in the grade level. Family resources are also available for you to use at Home/Community Resources - Choose To Be Nice
  • Today, we celebrated Kindergarten whose winning class had the highest average for attendance in the whole school during the month of September! Ms. Walton's class took the award for September with 98.07% for daily attendance! Ms. Lantz' class average was 95.45% and Ms. Ridgeway's class average was 94.48%. Way to go Seahawks!

October is here, and the fall season has officially arrived! We’re excited for all the learning, fun, and seasonal activities this month will bring. It has been wonderful to see students settling into their classrooms and becoming more confident with school routines and expectations. As the year continues, we look forward to continuing to support students’ growth and development.

Classroom Counseling Lessons

This month, our Classroom Counseling Lessons will focus on kindness and bullying prevention. Many students, and even adults, sometimes confuse bullying with conflict or a mean moment. Bullying is defined as intentional and is repeated aggressive behavior directed toward a specific individual over time. Bullying also involves an imbalance of power between the person being bullied and the person doing the bullying. A mean moment is an intentional hurtful action that happens once or twice and does not involve an imbalance of power. Understanding these differences helps students respond appropriately and seek help when needed. During our lessons, students will learn how to recognize the signs of bullying and how they can be an UPSTANDER by supporting others and helping create a positive school community.

Monthly Character Traits

Our character trait for the month of October is KINDNESS! We will focus on ways to show kindness in our Character Trait assemblies, as well as highlighting our Students of the Month from September who demonstrated RESPECT.

Bullying Prevention Month/Unity Day

October is National Bullying Prevention Month! The purpose of Bullying Prevention Month is to raise awareness of bullying and its harmful effects, to inspire action and create safe inclusive environments for everyone. Let’s ALL work together to spread kindness and prevent bullying! Join us on Unity Day, Wednesday, October 21st, and wear ORANGE to show your support for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion! For more information regarding Unity Day or to receive additional resources regarding Bullying Prevention, please visit the Pacers website.

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week is October 27h – 30th. Stay tuned for more information!

HeartFELT (Filling Empty Little Tummies) Program

SES has joined with Friendship Community Baptist Church for our HeartFELT Program. The HeartFELT Program provides qualifying students with meals and snacks each weekend. If you would like more information or would like your child to participate in the HeartFELT program, please contact us to sign up.

Donated Backpacks

We currently have several donated backpacks available at school. If your child needs a backpack or any school supplies, please don’t hesitate to reach out; we’re here to help!

TRANSPORTATION TRANSPORTATION

Daily Car Riders must complete the following link: SES 2026-2027 Daily Car Rider – Fill out form
    • This form is to be completed for those who will be Daily Car Riders only. By listing adults to pick up, you are giving that adult permission to pick up your student. We encourage all students to ride the bus.
    • Please tell your child that they will NOT have their name called. They are to dismiss when they hear Daily Car Riders are dismissed. This list will be shared with the teachers, too who will help the students initially.
    • Please have your state issued ID at all times when entering the school to pick up your student. You will need to have your ID out to show the staff, even if we know you!
    • One adult will be expected to come into the cafeteria to sign out their Daily Car Rider student(s). We will open the exterior cafeteria door at 3:50PM (1:50PM on Early Dismissal Days) to allow for students to be signed out. Promptly at 4:05PM (2:05PM on Early Dismissal Days), Daily Car Riders will be called to the cafeteria. You and your child will exit. When you sign in, you will be given a card signifying how many students you are picking up. You will turn in your card as you leave the cafeteria. If an adult is not present by 4:05PM (2:05PM on Early Dismissal Days), the student will be sent home on their assigned bus.
    • If your child is a bus rider and needs to be picked up due to an appointment, please arrive at the front office before 3:45PM (1:45PM on Early Dismissal Days). Our office staff and duty staff start preparing for Daily Car Riders and bus dismissal at 3:50PM (1:50PM on Early Dismissal Days) We have a 10 minute bus window to dismiss between 600-700 students, with limited staff, so we will need to keep our focus on the dismissal process.
    • Please complete the survey questions below by Monday, August 24th by 5:00PM so that we can be prepared for dismissal the first day of school. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Myrick at myrickp@calvertnet.k12.md.us or at 443-550-9390.
  • Non-Daily Car Riders :
    • We will permit Non-Daily Car Riders but we are not able to accommodate Drop in, Surprise Car Riders. For Non-Daily Car Riders, you MUST send a paper note, NOT AN EMAIL, with your child, EACH day that you plan for them to be a car rider. Please prepare your child and let them know that they must dismiss with the Daily Car Riders at 4:05PM when announced. We will NOT call individual students down for dismissal. Please do not send a note saying “every Tuesday” instead, send a note every Tuesday. We can not expect teachers to keep up with all students’ special request schedules. We ask that you send a paper note each day because there could be a sub in the class instead of the teacher.
