Principal's Update
Dear NBC Families,
Thank you for your continued support during recent state testing. We are proud of our students for their excellent attendance, which helped testing run smoothly and efficiently. Your partnership and encouragement made a difference!
As we move through this busy spring season, our students are looking forward to many exciting activities, including upcoming spring field trips, end-of-year events, and other special opportunities. Please continue to check PowerSchool regularly to stay informed about your child’s grades, assignments, and attendance. Staying connected is a great way to help students remain organized and finish the school year successfully.
Please also take a moment to review the “Important Dates” section of this email so you do not miss upcoming events, field trips, activities, and important deadlines as we head toward the end of the school year.
As always, thank you for your continued support—we’re looking forward to a strong and positive finish to the school year! If you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at 231-894-5617 or by email at perreaultj@mapsk12.org

Camp Wildcat Summer Program
NBC will once again host Camp Wildcat, a free summer program for our 6th-8th grade students. The camp-like experience will take place at NBC led by MAPS instructors! This will be a great way to give your child an opportunity to interact with friends, get outside and away from screens.
Camp Wildcat was created by our MAPS teachers to be a project based/integrated experience that will feel more like summer camp than school, even though there will be plenty of learning too! Students will be working on projects while learning necessary academic skills.
Camp Wildcat is 6 weeks long and meets Mondays through Thursdays from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm.
Session dates:
6/8 - 6/11
6/15 - 6/18
6/22 - 6/25
6/29 - 7/2
7/7 - 7/9
7/13 - 7/16
Transportation to and from camp, breakfast and lunch are provided each day.
If you would like your child to attend Camp Wildcat please click the link below and fill out the short enrollment form. We will take the first 40 participants who sign up on a first come first served basis.

Student Item Drop Off Table
We now have a new student item drop off table located in the office. It you have an item that you would like to drop off for your child, please fill out a slip including the child's full name, attach it to the item and leave it on the table for your student to pick up.
As a reminder, all beverages must be in a bottle with a closable lid and only water is allowed in hallways, lockers and classrooms. Medications must still be checked in with the office.
We thank you for limiting the use of this system to help encourage student responsibility, minimize classroom disruptions, and increase school safety.
Every Wildcat. Every Day. Attendance Matters!
A friendly reminder from the NBC office staff
If you plan on picking your student up early for some reason and know ahead of time, please send your student with a note that morning and we will get them a pass to leave class and meet you at the entrance of the school for their pick up time. This decreases wait time and class interruptions.
PLEASE if your student is not going to be in school or is sick, call the office and let us know why they will not be in school. This way we can mark them with an excused absence instead of an unexcused absence. According to the NBC Middle School Handbook, parents must provide an explanation for their child's absence by no later than 10:00 am on the day of the absence or by the following day.
If we DO NOT answer the phone as we are busy with students or on another line, PLEASE leave a message for us, we will get it taken care of and/or call you back if need be as soon as we are available.
Thank you parents,
-Mrs. Halverson & Mrs. Kraus

Take a look at some pictures of what our students are up to this month!
Kentucky Derby
8th graders in Mr. Long’s science class took part in their own version of the Kentucky Derby last Friday! As part of their genetics unit, students have been learning about inherited traits by selectively “breeding” racehorses with the goal of producing the fastest competitor.
Through this hands-on activity, students explored how traits are passed from one generation to the next and how selective breeding can influence outcomes. The project brought science to life in a fun and engaging way, allowing students to apply their knowledge in a real-world context.
It was an exciting day of learning, competition, and creativity in the classroom!
April Perfect Attendance
We are excited to celebrate our students who achieved perfect attendance for the month of
April! These students showed outstanding commitment by being present every day. Attendance plays a big role in student success, and we’re so proud of their dedication and responsibility. Students with Perfect Attendance for the Month of April were recognized this week with an award and a reward of extra recess time.
Thank you to our families for helping make good attendance a priority! Together, we’re building strong habits that lead to success.
