Deer Hill Need to Knows
Important Safety Reminders for Deer Hill Families: As an extra dose of precaution, I'm sharing the letter that was separately emailed to families yesterday regarding car and bike safety during arrival and dismissal. Thank you for partnering with us in prioritizing student safety.
Bridges Math Reminder: We wanted to remind you of changes made with the implementation of Bridges 3rd edition that began last year. You’ll notice that assessments no longer include an overall score at the top. Instead, at the end of each unit, you will receive a Unit Handout that provides an overview of your child’s performance across the unit. Please note that the Bridges curriculum is designed to provide multiple opportunities for students to revisit and deepen their understanding of these standards throughout the school year.
October Is National Bullying Prevention Month: Deer Hill is committed to a safe, respectful, and responsible community every day, and October gives us a chance to set an important tone for the whole year. As a show of that commitment, we'll again participate in Unity Day on October 21st. This year we'll be buddying up with the Osgood community to come together and send a visible message of building commUNITY through kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. We encourage everyone to wear orange on this day!
October 30th Spirit Day Need to Knows: This is our second year of having the option to wear costumes at Deer Hill. Important need to knows are the fact that costumes may be "spooky" not "scary", must not include masks or inflatables, and students may not dress up as characters from R-rated movies, above their age limit video games, or books that wouldn't be read in school. Students also know that there should be no gory or violent costumes. Props and accessories are discouraged (again, no masks). Students understand the goal is to have fun while following the Skipper Creed so that this can be the continuation of a new tradition! Wearing crazy hair, dressing in black and orange, or "dressing up" as a Deer Hill student are also great options. Thank you for your help!
Cradles to Crayons "Giving Factory": Are you going through your summer clothes and getting ready for fall? Gathering up adult and children's clothing (and shoes) to donate? If so, please consider holding onto those donations for our BIG Cradles to Crayons clothing drive that will officially begin the week of October 26th. On the morning of November 20th, the Deer Hill gym will become a Cradles to Crayons "Giving Factory" where students will participate in a clothing sort to support the work of this organization in a hands on way. More detailed information will be shared closer to the start of the drive. We need LOTS of donations, so spread the word!
