πŸ’‘ Michelle's Tip of the Month

The new school year is quickly approaching, and we are excited to continue preparing for a successful fall semester. This month's newsletter includes important updates, reminders, and action items to help keep everyone on track as enrollment continues to grow. Thank you for your ongoing support, flexibility, and commitment to serving our HSC families.

πŸ“ The Instructor Agreement πŸ“ The Instructor Agreement

The Instructor Agreement will be emailed to you this week.

If you're a new instructor, please reach out to Michelle Holiday if you have any questions after reviewing the agreement. Returning instructors are also encouraged to contact Michelle with any questions or if anything needs clarification. Please watch for an email from Craig Holiday containing the agreement and the submission deadline.

πŸ“… Schedule Your Virtual Meet & Greets & Orientation πŸ“… Schedule Your Virtual Meet & Greets & Orientation

The HSC Events Calendar is Here and Live on Our Website!

We now have a NEW public HSC Events Calendar on the HSC website where instructors can schedule and promote Virtual Meet & Greets and Virtual Orientations for families.

The shared calendar helps prevent scheduling conflicts and provides families with an easy way to RSVP directly with you.

Detailed instructions are available in the Marketing Tools Edition of the HSC Newsletter (located in the Instructor Portal under HSC Newsletters).

Please make every effort to schedule at least one event.

This is one of the easiest ways to introduce yourself to prospective families from the comfort of your own home. Simply choose a day and time, share a brief overview of your class (or classes), and answer any questions families may have.

Your event can be as short as 15–30 minutesβ€”even meeting with just one or two interested families can make a lasting impression. Families often share positive experiences with friends, helping your classes continue to grow.

You are welcome to schedule multiple events throughout the enrollment season. Calendar time slots are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

Reach Out to Your Enrolled Families

Parents are excited to hear from their instructors!

Even a short welcome message helps build trust, establish a connection, and create excitement for the upcoming semester.

While reaching out, please also introduce your payment process. Many families are new to homeschooling or new to HSC and may appreciate a little extra guidance.

We recommend checking your roster regularly. The Enrollment Date is a helpful reference when determining which newly enrolled families may still need to be contacted.

πŸ”„ Follow Up with Recently Unenrolled Families πŸ”„ Follow Up with Recently Unenrolled Families

To help bring students back who have unenrolled, you can view their contact information directly in your Instructor Portal. Click on the number listed under the "unenrolled" column for your class. This will open a list with parent contact details. We recommend checking this list every few days and reaching out to families. A quick message to ask if they have any questions or need clarification might encourage them to re-enroll.

Please note: You may not receive an email notification each time a student unenrolls. We have a monthly limit on total unenrollments, so checking your roster regularly helps us manage this more effectively.

🏫 Charter Purchase Order or Private Pay? 🏫 Charter Purchase Order or Private Pay?

Review your class rosters to determine whether each student is using charter funding or paying privately.

Private-pay families: Please contact them promptly with your payment instructions.

Charter families: Encourage them to submit their purchase order request as soon as charter funding becomes available.

As outlined in the HSC Instructor Agreement, instructors should receive either full payment from private-pay families or an approved purchase order for the full semester amount from charter-funded families before the first day of class whenever possible.

HSC's Targeted Core Class Schedule

Many parents feel overwhelmed when selecting classes each year. To make planning easier, HSC offers suggested core class pathways by grade level.

Each image on the website links directly to a filtered class schedule showing recommended core classes for that grade. From there, families can easily add electives and explore additional scheduling options.

Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with this feature on the HSC homepage so you can confidently assist families who ask for guidance.

πŸ™‹ Parent Volunteers πŸ™‹ Parent Volunteers

Many instructors enjoy having parent volunteers assist in their classrooms throughout the school year. If you plan to have parent volunteers regularly helping with students, please be sure to review any applicable state requirements, including mandated reporter training and any other volunteer requirements that may apply.

As an independent instructor, you are responsible for ensuring that anyone who regularly volunteers in your classroom meets any applicable legal, insurance, and safety requirements. This may include:

  • Completing annual Mandated Reporter Training (if required)
  • Maintaining a copy of any required certificates or documentation
  • Conducting criminal background checks when appropriate
  • Confirming with your insurance provider that your policy extends coverage to parent volunteers

Taking these simple precautions helps protect your students, your volunteers, and your classroom.
