Week 11

Dear MUMS community,

Thank you so much to everyone who donated, chaperoned, decorated and whatever else you can think of that contributed to a fun filled dance last Friday night! It's a lot of work, I know, but the students really love these dances and it has become such an important part of students experience here at MUMS.

In school day news, we've made some changes to our dismissal procedures beginning on Monday November 17th to help facilitate a calmer end to our days. To that end, students who ride the bus will wait by town in specified locations to be dismissed to their busses when they arrive. If your student is a walker, biker or car rider, we will dismiss them with the first round of bus riders. They will be encouraged to execute their end of day plan when the first round of busses leave rather than hanging out here at school for extended periods of time. As the winter sports season begins, we will make subtle shifts to accommodate those students remaining at school for practices. Our hope is that these small changes will allow for students to end their days in a bit more calmer fashion.

Next week is our last week of school before November break. We will spend it engaging in spirit week! Please see our daily themes below and contact Dustin Hunt (dhunt@acsdvt.org) with any questions.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Best,

Michaela Wisell ~ Principal

From the MYP Coordinator

Greetings MUMS Caregivers!

Have you ever wondered, “What makes an IB education?”

MYP includes many factors, but this week I’d like to point out two aspects of MYP instructional design: Inquiry and Concepts, using Ms. Broderson’s 8th grade Digital Design Class!

In MYP, all units are inquiry-based. Inquiry fosters student engagement and drives learning. For this unit, Ms. Broderson has several lines of inquiry for students to explore, including:

How can I research and create a product of my own design? How do I best use the available technology to create my product? What makes a product functional and artistic?

In MYP, all units focus on conceptual understanding. Focusing on concepts gives students transferable skills that they can use in any subject area and outside of school. For this unit, Ms. Broderson focuses on the key concept of development with related concepts of form and function: Students develop a product that is both functional and artistic.

Using inquiry, concepts, and approaches to learning skills (ATLs), students use the MYP design cycle to research, develop, and create their own unique cricut product and reflect on the process. See below for a few examples of how all these skills came together in their work!

Student Absences, Dismissals + Bus Notes

If your student will be absent from school, needs an early dismissal, or will take a different bus, please follow these directions:

  • Absence / early dismissal: Call 802-382-1297, the MUMS attendance line, before 8:30am (helpful tip: add this number to your phone now as "MUMS attendance line")
  • Early dismissal + bus notes: Students must deliver a caregiver's note to the front office when arriving at school (before TA).
  • If taking a bus other than their regular bus: Students must bring a caregiver's note and have it signed by a MUMS Administrative Assistant in the front office to be valid.

Shoreham/Cornwall bus caveats

Please use the "button" above to preview our ACSD bus routes.

Also please note a few caveats that impact students who ride Cornwall or Shoreham buses home.

Cornwall and Shoreham buses do not come to MUMS at pick-up time. Students who ride those buses must take a shuttle from MUMS to MUHS to meet their bus.

Cornwall students use the Bridport bus as their MUMS-MUHS shuttle and get on the Cornwall bus at the High school to ride home.
Shoreham students use the Weybridge bus as their MUMS-MUHS shuttle and get on the Shoreham bus at the High school to ride home.
