Dear Laurel Woods Community,

🏫 Attendance Matters at Laurel Woods!

At Laurel Woods, we know that every day counts! Our data shows that students who attend school regularly demonstrate stronger growth and perform higher on county and state assessments. Consistent attendance helps students stay connected, confident, and ready to learn.

Starting in Quarter 2, we’re introducing a few updates to our attendance support plan to help all Panthers show up and shine:

📞 Beginning November 3rd, if your child is absent for two consecutive days, their homeroom

teacher will reach out to check in and see how we can help.

💙 Beginning November 10th, if your student has missed at least 15% of the school year , staff will call

home each day your student is absent to offer support and problem-solve barriers to attendance.

🚶‍♀️ Beginning November 10th, school staff will lead a Walking School Bus—visiting homes of students who have missed at least 15% of the school year, who haven’t arrived at school and whose absence hasn’t been reported by a parent/guardian—to help them walk to school safely.

Together, we can ensure every Panther is present, learning, and growing—

because when students show up, they soar!

With Pride,

Dr. Burks, Ms. Braxton, & Ms. Lee

ZUM RFID Bus Cards🚌

Starting today, all students assigned to ZUM buses will be issued a bus card. These cards will be used each time a student rides the bus to or from school. Even if your child does not currently ride the bus, but is eligible for HCPSS transportation, they will still receive a ZUM RFID card. No eligible student will be denied transportation if they forget or lose their card.

For easy identification, cards include students’ first names and last initials. To help keep cards secure and accessible, staff will attach each student’s card with a lanyard to their backpack. Please do not remove it. When entering or exiting the bus, students will tap their card on the reader near the driver. Each RFID card is uniquely assigned and cannot be shared. The card wirelessly transmits a unique code that confirms their assigned ridership.

Parents/guardians can access real-time ridership info through the Zum app, which also provides bus pickup and drop-off details. The app is free to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play.

For more information, visit the HCPSS Transportation website under Student RFID Bus Card.
