WETWANG CE PRIMARY SCHOOL
WEEK COMMENCING 22ND JUNE 2020
'Learning and Growing in the Love of God' (1 John 4:16)
LEARNING
We appreciate how unusual the period of lockdown and subsequent return has been for everyone and we also understand that patterns of school and learning have become different for every child and family. We would like to thank you again for your efforts in supporting your child with their learning both at home and, for those who children are returned, in school. Please continue to look at our website for Home Learning Resources. Each class has access to Classroom Secrets which can be found on the Class Page/ Home Learning. We have staff available, should you need it, by phone for any queries relating to the work we are sending out or if your child would simply like to talk to a familiar voice.
QUICK UPDATE
We've had a very busy week in school and I'd like to thank all of our chldren for their good humour and hard work. Our focus, for those children who are able to return to school, is on supporting their well-being and on re-establishing relationships.
We are very pleased with how our pupils have re-integrated back into school life so quickly. Thanks for this have to go to the children themselves, to you as parents and carers and to our staff, who are working very hard to make it as normal as possible.
LEARNING
Opportunities were taken to enjoy learning in the sunshine when we could. Our children, who are always keen to read, had Phonics and Guided Reading outside. They also enjoyed keeping active with Zumba.
Some of our youngest pupils have had lots of fun at Wetwang. When the weather turned a bit of rain didn't dampen spirits or stop the children from learning and playing. We especially liked using the bikes to practise our sounds!
THANK YOU
We'd like to thank every parent and carer for bringing their child to school and for following the new protocols. Reminder - during this phase of school life it is important that your child is at school on time as our aim is to take the children into school promptly once they are all ready. We would also remind all parents and carers that to adhere to social distancing expectations whilst dropping-off and collecting children – many thanks.
PREPARATIONS FOR AUTUMN
At this stage of the school year we are usually in the middle of busy preparations for Sports Day, concerts and leavers' events. Due to Coronavirus we are unable to run any of these mainstays, which is a real disappointment to us all. Instead, we are grappling with the uncertainty around what Autumn will look like in schools. Our ambition is for things to be as near to normal as possible and once we have further guidance from the DfE we will keep you informed. As a result, we may not be able to give you the usual amount of notice about classes that we would like. This may be the same for many aspects of school life. Our aim, as always, is to try to keep things simple and as near to normal for the children. We will be sending out reports and we are working hard to support all children with transition up to their next class or school. It will not be possible for them to swap classes this year.
In terms of supporting us from your end, it would be very helpful if you could let us know how much home learning your child has done. As part of preparations for September we would also like to know if your child has access to a computer (or other device) and how long they are able to access it for. This will help us, when planning for the future, should there be another lockdown or partial lockdown. (We will send out a letter this week with a short tick box on.)
