💙 SWPREP Core Value of the Month
Self Disipline
Student Focus: "I stay focused on my goals, even when it's hard. I make good choices now to help my future self succeed."
Why it matters:
Success takes more than talent—it takes commitment and patience. When you turn in your work on time, study for a test, or walk away from distractions, you're building the habits of success.
Real-World Reward:
Students who consistently show self-discipline from 6th–12th grade will qualify for our College and Career Scholarship program. Your effort now can literally pay off later! Learn more by clicking the link below.
💛 Capturing Kids Hearts Core Value of the Month
Start Strong and create a good First Impression
To make a good first impression, remember the three S's:
- Smile: A warm and genuine smile makes you appear friendly and approachable.
- Say Hello: Be the first to greet others and introduce yourself.
- Stand Tall: Good posture shows confidence and helps you feel more comfortable.
These simple actions can help you make new friends and connections!

🧠 Counselor’s Connection!
Social Emotional Support
Supporting a Strong Start - As we kick off a new school year, our campus is focused on helping every student feel seen, supported, and ready to grow. While our new school counselor will be joining us in the coming weeks, our commitment to student well-being is already in full swing.
Daily Check-ins: Start the Day with a Greeting
Each morning, teachers greet students individually to build trust and connection. These small moments help set a positive tone for the day and create a safe space where students feel valued.
Promoting Positive Self-Talk and a Growth Mindset
We’re encouraging students to embrace mistakes as part of learning. Whether it’s tackling a tough subject or trying something new, we remind them:
"I can’t do it… yet."
Positive self-talk and a growth mindset help students build resilience and confidence from day one.
We can’t wait to introduce our new counselor soon—stay tuned!

📢 Special News & Announcements
Benchmark Testing: August 18–22
What Parents Need to Know
From August 18–22, all students from Kindergarten through High School will participate in Benchmark Testing across multiple subjects.
These important assessments help us do more than just measure learning—they help us improve it. Benchmark tests serve several key purposes:
-
📊 Gauge what students have learned so far
-
🧭 Inform teachers' planning to better meet each student’s needs
-
📈 Track student progress throughout the year
-
🔍 Identify areas for additional support or enrichment
-
🏫 Provide valuable data for school-wide improvement
We encourage all students to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive on time each day during testing week. Your support at home makes a big difference!
Together, we can set students up for a successful and confident school year.
CLI Testing for PreK–2: August 5-Sept 12
What Parents Need to Know
Beginning the last week of August and continuing through the first two weeks of September, our Pre-K through 2nd grade students will participate in Beginning-of-Year (BOY) testing using the CLI assessment.
Unlike traditional testing, CLI is a one-on-one assessment where your child works directly with their teacher in a calm, supportive environment. These early assessments are a key part of how we help young students build strong foundations in language, literacy, and early learning skills.
🧠 Measure your child’s early learning development
🎯 Help teachers plan instruction based on your child’s unique needs
📚 Track progress in reading, language, and foundational skills
🤝 Identify where extra support or challenges are needed
👶 Build a clear picture of how your child is growing academically
You can support your child by making sure they get plenty of rest, eat a healthy breakfast, and come to school on time each day. Remind them that there are no grades—this is just a way for their teacher to better understand how to help them shine!

📅 Save the Date: Big Give SA 2025 — September 17–18!
Fuel the Flight. Fund the Future.
Southwest Preparatory School is proud to participate once again in the Big Give SA, a 24-hour community-wide day of giving — and this year, we’re taking it to new heights with our Fuel the Flight: Prize Edition campaign!
Why do we participate?
Because your support directly funds the Southwest Winners Foundation College & Career Scholarship Program, which provides real dollars to our 6th–12th grade students as they work toward their college and career dreams. These funds help pay for tuition, books, and career training — and can make a big difference in a student’s next step after graduation.
🎓 Since 2012, Southwest Prep has awarded over $275,000 in scholarships to our students!
✨How You Can Help:
-
Mark your calendar: Sept. 17–18
-
Make a donation during Big Give
-
Support student-led fundraisers happening right on campus
-

📊 Chalk Talk - We Want to Hear from You!
Parents, what are you looking forward to this school year?
🐸 From the Pond - PreK Peek
What our PreK friends are diving into this month—and how you can support their learning at home.
This month, we’re working on: My School and Me
Try This at Home: Review with your child how he or she gets ready for school. Ask: What do you do first? Next? Last?
Throughout the year, your child will learn calming strategies. These strategies will help your child
learn to manage feelings and deal with them in appropriate ways. Review S.T.A.R. breathing with
your child: Take in a deep breath by inhaling through your nose as if smelling a flower. Ten pretend to blow out a candle as you exhale and let the air out.
