Arriving to School On Time
‼️It is very important that students arrive at school by 7:15 a.m. so they have enough time to eat breakfast, use the restroom, unpack, and prepare for a successful day. Intervention begins promptly at 7:35 a.m., and we are currently having students arrive to class between 7:30–7:45, causing them to miss valuable instructional time. If your child eats breakfast at school, please plan for them to arrive early enough to eat in the cafeteria before class begins. Arriving on time—or even 10–15 minutes early—helps students start their day calm, prepared, and ready to learn. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

All About Attendance
Attendance Information
At Rann Elementary, we want every student at school, on time, and ready to learn each day. Regular attendance is important for academic growth, friendships, routines, and overall student success.
We also understand that children get sick and unexpected situations happen. Our goal is to work with families when attendance becomes a concern while also following state and district attendance requirements.
Why Does Attendance Matter?
Attendance requirements are not determined by Rann Elementary. Texas law requires school-age students to attend school and generally requires students to attend at least 90% of the days a class is offered in order to receive credit or a final grade.
Attendance also affects school funding. Texas uses Average Daily Attendance (ADA) as an important part of determining funding for public schools. Simply put, being enrolled and being present are not the same when it comes to how attendance is reported for state funding.
Most importantly, every day at school matters! When students miss school, they miss direct instruction, classroom discussions, interventions, practice, routines, and time with teachers and classmates.
What Happens When Absences Add Up?
We want to address attendance concerns early and partner with families before they become bigger problems.
3 Absences
A warning letter will be sent home, and we will contact the family.
5 Absences
A second warning letter will be sent, and we will contact the family again.
7 Absences (without a Dr. note)
If absences continue to be a concern, we will contact the family and schedule an in-person meeting create an official attendance plan. The purpose of the plan is to identify barriers and find ways to improve attendance.
10 Unexcused Absences (without a Dr. note)
When a student reaches the state threshold for unexcused absences, additional action may be required under Texas attendance and truancy laws including filing truancy with local courts.
Our goal throughout this process is to work WITH families to improve attendance and avoid the need for further action whenever possible.
When Your Child Is Sick
Please keep your child home when illness requires it and follow our district health guidelines for returning to school.
When your child is absent:
• Provide a healthcare provider's note when applicable.
• Keep the school informed when an illness or other circumstance will result in multiple absences.
• Contact us if your family is experiencing a challenge that is making regular attendance difficult.
Every Minute Matters, Too!
Arriving late or leaving school early means students miss valuable instructional time. Frequent tardies and early checkouts can quickly add up to significant lost learning and can impact a students ability to meet the required 90% attendance law threshold.
We Are Here to Help!
Attendance concerns are not just about numbers. If your family is experiencing transportation problems, ongoing illness, family circumstances, student anxiety about coming to school, or another barrier affecting attendance, please reach out to us.
We would much rather work together to find a solution early!
Every Eagle. Every Day. Every Minute Matters!
SNACK REMINDER: PLEASE READ!
PLEASE READ THE 2ND GRADE SNACK REMINDERS BELOW!
Snacks need to be able to be eaten while students are working. Please do not send anything messy like yogurts, apple sauce, oats etc. If you have any questions about snacks, please let your child's teacher know.
Mrs. Carrillo & Ms. Barker's Snack Update
🌟Snack Time Update🌟
Good news! We can begin having snack time again in Mrs. Carrillo’s and Ms. Barker’s classrooms. Thank you for your patience while we worked to get our ant problem under control.
As we bring snacks back, we need everyone’s help keeping our classrooms clean and crumb-free. Please send snacks that are easy to eat and do not create crumbs that can fall onto the carpet or floor. Students will also be reminded to clean up their area carefully after snack.
We will continue to watch closely for ants. If we begin seeing ants in our classrooms again, we will have to stop snack time again until the problem is resolved.
Thank you for helping us keep our classrooms clean and pest-free while still allowing students to enjoy their snack! ❤️
Friendly Reminders
📌 CAR TAGS–please bring them everyday.
📌 Transportation changes—Please call the office before 3:00 pm.
📌 Send a lightweight jacket labeled with the student’s name. Our classrooms get cold at times.
📌 Only WATER is allowed in the classrooms. NO juice, flavor packets, or any other drink is allowed at school. The sugar drinks attract ants.
📌 NO TOYS from home at school—2nd grade is very strict on this! We do have playground equipment on the playground. Footballs or soccer balls are ok to bring if the student's name is on it and you understand that it must be shared with everyone and if it goes over the fence it may not get returned.
📌 Due to limited time, we welcome cupcakes for birthdays and NOT a whole cake.
📌 Please send your child's lunch with them to school. When you drop it off in the office that causes a distraction when the student has to leave class to go to the office and get it.

Counselor Newsletter
There are a lot of good resources and information located in Mrs. Elledge's Rann Newsletter. Please make sure you check it out for our NEW E.A.G.L.E. traits this year.
🦅 Learning to SOAR as a Rann Eagle!
This year, your students will learn all about what it takes to SOAR as a Rann Eagle! One thing we will use to teach them these characteristics is our EAGLE Expectations:
💙 E — Excellence
💗 A — Accountability
💚 G — Growth Mindset
💛 L — Listening & Leadership
💜 E — Empathy
Spend some time at home talking to your child about what they have been learning about each expectation and what each one looks like in action!
Every Eagle Matters—and every Eagle SOARS! 🦅✨
EAGLE Trait of August: Excellence
Each month, our campus is focusing on specific character trait(s) within the E.A.G.L.E. framework. When teachers, staff, and other adults on campus see a child exhibiting the characteristics, they can nominate them for an Eagle Leader award. Eagle Leaders get recognized on the morning announcements, receive a certificate and prize, get their picture taken for the Eagle Leader bulletin board, and are recognized at the 9-weeks awards assembly. Check out this month's focus!
Lunch Visitors
Lunch Visitors Information
Lunch Visitors are welcome to come and visit!
Please take a look at the graphics below for important reminders and information about visiting your child during lunch.
As a reminder, any time you visit Rann, please bring a valid photo ID. This helps us maintain our safety and security procedures while welcoming families into our building.
Just a note: If your child is still struggling with morning drop-off, having a lunch visitor and then saying goodbye again may make the transition back to class difficult. If this sounds like your child, we encourage you to give them a couple more weeks to settle into their school routine before joining them for lunch. Also, please encourage your child to stay at school when you come for lunch and have to leave. They miss a lot of instruction and classwork when they go home for no reason. We encourage you to make school a priority for your child.
We want lunch visits to be a fun, happy, and positive experience for your child, and waiting a little longer may help set them up for success!
If you have any questions please email or send your child's teacher a DOJO message!
